Howdy y'all.

Just wondering if anyone had some must-have reccomendations regarding Cure songs or albums. I've got all the more popular stuff (The Forrest, Lovecats, Friday I'm In Love, 10:15 on a Saturday Night etc), just wondering if there's some more obscure stuff that is essential. Also, talk about The Cure lots, in this thread. Thankyou.

I like their earlier stuff. They are good every once in a while, to my ears.

I've got that one too, you should give it a listen, it's pretty good except for the last two tracks.

The Cure is one of my favorite bands. Sadly I don't have as many songs after my computer crashed and mp3 player stopped working. I had over 70 songs then, 47 now.

I got that for a dollar at a garage sale.

What I've heard I've liked. Though I'm not a really big fan, I might end up buying one album in the future.

Definately worth it.

Also learn "Love Song" on guitar, even just the chords and learn to sing it. It's like 75% effective guaranteed to pick up.

They are not too bad. My parents have that singles collection cd which I promptly put on the computer a month or so ago. It was the first time I had really listened to them other than a few songs here and there.

I think "Friday I'm In Love" is the ultimate pop song. Utterly pefect thinks I.

I loathe Michael Jackson with all of my black, cholesterol encrusted heart. The only good thing about Michael Jackson is the zombies in the Thriller film clip. And the fact that he's the easiest target for politically incorrect jokes ever, bar none.

I have two Cure albums. I bought their newest one first and I didn't like it at all. I think I have only listened to it about twice? Greatest hits though, that album I could listen to all day and just have somewhat a good time with it.

I am not the biggest Cure fan there is, but I do enjoy a lot of their songs. I need to buy a lot more of their cd's.

RIP Ian Curtis

Yeah their newest one sniffs monkey balls, but what do you expect if the collabarate with Blink 182. Killing An Arab = Goodness, Boys Don't Cry is killer too.

The only The Cure songs I have heard are the songs they play on Music Channels which is usually Friday I'm in Love, love Cats and Boys don't Cry. They Sound okay but I don't think I would go buy one of their albums.

Best cure song ever: Burn

You can find it on the Crow's soundtrack, or the cure's "Join the Dots" album. The greatest hits doesn't have it, therefore the greatest hits suck. Seriously though, this song tops everything with its gloomy-as-hell atmosphere. Friday I'm in Love and Lullaby aren't bad either.

I think 311 did a pretty good cover of "Love Song", though they completely bastardized the original mood of the piece and made it some "feel good" music.

Seriously, Eric, what the ****?

Amazing band, one of my favorites. As far as albums go, Staring at the Sea is essential. It's a collection of all their earliest singles, which were better than anything in their later career, except for "Pictures Of You.

Their new cd wasn't too bad, either.

I love burn, the sorta tribal drumming at the start, when they play it in The Crow and Brandon Lee is jumping across rooftops and being all dark and gothic. Awesome stuff.

I'd have to disagree with you on the new album thing Andrethehyena, I can't stand it.

I got the hair. Takes a fair amount of hair-spray to do it but. I used to have the make-up to, but I don't wear make-up anymore, because someone might think I like The Used or something.

There's a song on Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me I think with a line that goes
"I used to sometimes try to catch her,
But never even caught her name"
I don't know the title - it always just stuck in my head, one of those perfect little melodies.

But it must be said that the Cure are most certainly NOT punk, just very good.

They're not "punk" but they're definatly post-punk and I figured this page suited more than any other. If anyone has a problem with this thread being here feel free to have it closed or moved.

The Cure are full of perfect little melodies. I like "Prayers For Rain", it's pretty hard to get much more depressing that that song.

I wouldn't really care less if it was in a R&B-techno-jazz fusion discussion forum tbh, it's all gravy, baby. Just a shock to see them in the line with Against Me! and SLF like - they tend to be lumped in the poppier end of the "Goth" spectrum - mainly because of the lipstick, but it's true that they really are post-punk. I mean the Buzzcocks could have easily recorded Boys Don't Cry and no-one would have batted an eyelid.

But here, too many good songs really the Cure are excellent.

Play for Today I'm really in the mood to hear that, where's my copy of Staring at the Sea.

My band just learnt "10:15 on a Saturday Night", next is "Love Song" and "Friday I'm In Love". I have a strange feeling that Love Song would be utterly awesome given a little punk energy. Like play the synth line on a distorted lead.

Just Like Heaven, A Letter to Elise, Boys Don't Cry, Killing an Arab, Fire in Cairo, Lovecats, Fascination Street, Pictures of You, Inbetween Days, and Love Song are my favourite Cure songs. They're probably in my top five favourite bands. I have Boys Don't Cry (the American version of Three Imaginary Boys) and The Head on the Door, and I've been meaning to pick up Disintegration and maybe Pornography. Great band.

Pronography? I've never really been big into albums, other than Frank Sinatra ones or 60's/70's concept albums, i prefer "greatest hits" and compilations. Just get kinda bored listening to the one band constantly

I am the only person in the whole school who knew who they were, and I liked them then. I tried to get people to listen to them everyone hated them, and I still like them. I listen to them when im in a more melancholy mood, good at the right times and in smaller dosages.
