Just how to make a drum track?
I only know 2 ways:
1, Experiment every pitch of the midi drum instrument in my composing software and make 2 or 4 measures by trial and error. Then repeat those 2 or 4 measures throughout the whole song.
2, Find a midi file with drum pattern that I need and copy the drum track to my song.
Is there better ways? Also where can I find more midi files with all kinds of drum tracks?

drum programming is pretty much always tedious. My suggestion would be to listen to a bunch of CDs and pay attention to what each drum instrument is doing.

That'll help you figure out what drums do in the style of music you're working with.

Also, check out Fruity Loops Studio Demo, DRhuma, and LeafDrums. Those are programs that lend themselves to drum programming very well and have the ability to create .wav files or the beats that are created.

Thats how I got into drumming. I got fruityloops and had to listen very carefully and use drum tabs to figure out the drums to songs...it takes me a 1-3 hours to do a drumtrack for one song. I started listening to the drums more carefully in songs and I ended up falling in love with them, so I got a drumset lol.

So just go ahead and try to do it yourself.

I have an old DR 660 back from when I used to do alot of sequencing/beat making. After joining a live band....programming a drum machine of any kind just seems shltty to me. My friend wants me to make some tracks for this dvd he's making and I SO dont want to be bothered with the drum maching but I'll have to. Dayum.
