Ladies and gentlemen of the Sputnikmusic community:

I'm not pleased with how some of you are acting on Sputnikmusic. By acting like a bunch of immature children, you are disrespecting yourself as a member of the community and you are alienating new users from the site by carrying on with your jokes and harassment. These actions and overall attitudes drive visitors away and make newer users feel intimidated.

Just because you have status on Sputnikmusic does not give you the right to be an asshole to people on the site.

Examples:

I know that he's an idiot that... couldn't pull a good review together.

/basically anything he posts as of late

[S]top reviewing.

Who's next on the **** list, Med?

/random flaming, taunting, and name-calling

I'm getting tired of visiting Sputnikmusic and having to tell you guys to act your age and not your shoe size.

There is no place for trolling, shitting in reviews, shitting on reviewers (particularly newer users), or flaming an excessive amount.

By acting like this, you're disgracing yourself and the site. Drop the domineering attitude and be constructive with your criticisms. Do not flame people to an extraordinary degree. Do not insult people who are trying their best.

BE MORE RECEPTIVE TO NEWER USERS. They are trying their best to write reviews and fit in with the community. You're making it a hell of a lot harder for them by being assholes to them; as a result, they'll stop visiting and leave. THIS WILL NOT MAKE THEM BETTER WRITERS.

My first reviews in the old CD Reviews archive sucked. Your first reviews also sucked, and some of your reviews still suck. Same here.

So please, can we act a little more mature on Sputnikmusic? It is not unreasonable to ask this.

Stick to the discussion at hand: the album and/or the review.

Do not make bets on who's going to get banned. Do not ask who's going to get banned. Do not get your kicks by trashing people. Do not name-call.

These are not hard concepts to grasp. Stop posting like idiots. No one is above the rules.

Please, be a bit more considerate and a lot less sophomoric on the site. Whether or not you care about your reputation is beyond me, but I'm getting tired of seeing people act like douchebags there.

Cordially,

Jom

PS/In addition:

Another thing I want to address is people bitching about how there are too many reviews of an album.

"Awwww jeez, this is the seventh review, we don't need anymore!"

You do not need to post this. You do not need to bitch at the reviewer. One of the big aims with Sputnikmusic was the capacity to have multiple reviews of an album that are separate from one another.

Under the old forum, reviews were merged into a single thread. It made for some confusion and, while Bartender and others did their best keeping everything in order (Bartender especially did a great job), it was still unfortunate to have reviews merged into one thread.

So, be thankful for that. Do not whine about how there are too many reviews of a certain album. It does nothing, and it makes you look silly. Stop it.

Read this post (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10357773&postcount=449). This further clarifies how peoples' piss-poor attitudes can drive people away from the site. There are no excuses for this kind of behavior.

I was just thinking about how sputnik has degenerated drastically since it's conception. I slip up like everyone else, but I hope I'm not one that consistently makes the site look bad. My old reviews suck just like Jom's and everyone else's, so there's no point in acting spatulistic towards new reviewers when they aren't as good as the site's best reviewers on their first try.

Ugh Jom, quit stealing all my moral highground :p

Uhh, yeah, basically. This entire thing boils down, for the most part, to elitism and it's making a mockery of the site.

Your first reviews also sucked, and some of your reviews still suck.
This statement needs to be closely examined by a few people.

I bet IamHoppus wouldn't be nearly as much flamed if his reviews were eaisly readable and in a good format.

I don't see whats really wrong with asking Med who is going to get banned next.

Why, because you got banned for trying to be funny?

My answer to your question is because it has NOTHING to do with the review or the album.

If you have such a dire question, take it to THIS FORUM. Do not ask on Sputnikmusic. Do not ask in a review. Do not pass Go and collect $200. Ask in either the community thread, the report problems thread, or the make suggestions thread. Do not crap up Sputnikmusic with your theorizing or questions.

Sorry, but you're no exception to the "my first reviews were pretty bad" theorem, either.

hey man, I didn't say it, I just thought it was not really that offensive or anything, but it doesn't pertain to the album or review so I guess we shouldn't do junk like that.

It wasn't this bad even two months ago, it'd drastically gotten pretty bad as of late, but thankfully I do see it getting better. The American Idiot thread is better and no one really argues about Green Day anymore. Eliminator Jr.had been getting out of place for a while now and a few others in the past month have been testing the boundries, but with what has happened now and allmost all of the regular users being witness to this things should get better.

Jeez, wish you were around when I turned in my American Idiot review yesterday or the day before.

I was around. I just figured that what happened wouldn't escalate to what happened in that Franz Ferdinand review.

The most frustrating thing about this is that I shouldn't be making announcements like this. Some of you get the picture, and I appreciate it. Others think they have free reign to poke fun at less-experienced users and new users. These attitudes need to change.

For me to feel the need to have to make this announcement shows how "highly" I think of some of the veterans of the Sputnikmusic community as a whole.

This is what really boils my beans.

Ooooh, look, there's another review. That's the main purpose of the whole site, so.. yeah.

I don't think I have to add more. Just want to add that I will try to be more present to catch bad comments and the likes.

It's pretty easy to agree with what jom and med are saying, but it's harder to follow it. My old friend Nike from middle school once said to me, "Just do it!" :thumb:
