You know, a groove that just won't go out of your head, and you drum it all the time, in your head, on the desk at work/school, and as soon as you sit behind your kit you have to do it again..
Currently, mine is "Fair Judgement" from Opeth's Deliverance album
what's yours?

---LRRL-RLRRL-
The L's and R's at the bottom show you wich hand is playing what (basicaly all the snare hits are done with the left, except for the accent on the third quarter, wich is done with the right). It is actually based on the diddle RLR RLL. You don't have to view it this way as 8th triplets though, that's all up to you. Could be 16th triplets as well off course.
For the same lick in 4's, you play the exact same thing as tabbed above, but you do 2 hits on every L instead of only 1.
To make it sound like Gadd does is quite... eum... fukked up
he does this sooo fast, it's unbelievable. Very cool fill though when played for a bar or 2-3

6/8 > 4/4
when ever i hear a cool song these days it seems to be in 6/8. sounds original because it isnt done that often but it doesnt sound weird.

me too. i still am actually. how much is it the biggest come-down song, haha.. back on track, its actually a pretty good all round groove to throw in there. i use it in church and in *shudders at the term* breakdowns in heavier songs.

I so dig Jimmy's playing, especially his snare work. His playing is so tasteful...

Well the beat itself is not a polyrhythm, but it does form a plyrhythm with the guitar. i dont know if that what you meant...
oh i see. i never realised the other rhythm on the hihat. thats cool.
Det_Nosnip

Yes, it's a polyrhythm. The hi-hats are opening in 3 over a 16th note 4/4 groove.

*shrug* you can do whatever you want with the feet...that is just a sticking for the hands (F= flam, sorry if that was unclear).

I recently went to see a UK indie band called Mystery Jets. You may have heard of them. They have a Myspace if anyone's interested. The intro to the song "Zoo Time" keeps running through my head. It's hypnotic. Not hard, or particularly innovative, but it mesmerises.
Also, rediscovered Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body". Solid groove. Haven't got it down yet, but I'll get it.

Most of those kind of artists do. It's a real challenge to do that well, and honestly, I don't think I could yet. Yet.
