Alright, i had another burst of random drumming thoughts today, and this is what came out...

What would you think of a kit that was just two bass drums (same size) and a snare? I'd also of course have some hats, crashes, ride etc.

I think it would really force you to be more creative, a making more from less sort of thing.

-Also, think of how much $$$ you'd save, that would be insane!

Think how much you'd save using a double pedal instead

Try just hats and snare. Now THAT is forcing you to be creative. I remember one gig I had where my bass pedal broke and I forgot the arm that attached the tom to my bass drum, so I had to manage with hats, a ride, a snare and a floor tom. It was interesting.

Doesn't the drummer for 3 Inches of Blood have a kit similar to what you're saying?

Playing with only a ride cymbal cymbal stand and sticks will force you to be creative(if your a jazz drummer)

Eh. I guess. Dillinger Escape Plan's drummer uses a Bass, Snare and Floor Tom with a Double pedal. Not too much diff. than his. Could be fun I guess, but I like toms too much for that idea.

Try 6 basses, 16 8" picollo toms and 18 other sized toms. With like 100 odd cymbals and a gong. What a sweet idea, wish someone would do that

oh :(

16x22 Bass
6.5x14 Snare
18" Crash Ride [awsome cymbal for learning to control/use wash effectively]

Bozzio doesnt have... A LIFE!. He spends all his life writing 20 minute 'melodic drum compositions'. He remebers all his toms because they all have a note written on them (the 8" ones do anyways) With all these amazing players with huge kits (especially Bozzio, portnoy and lang) I would love to hear the rock away on a 5 piece with hats crash and ride, maybe a splash. That (IMHO) is the only way to test out their REAL skill

EDIT: Hey, I wonder if he can play twinkle twinkle

Wasn't Portnoy in that Beatles tribute band? He was rocking a four-piece in there, and his LTE kit was a fairly stripped down version of his DT kit. Not to mention that he now uses a Bonzo replica five-piece on his siamese monster.

i'd like to see bozio play a 3 piece with hat, ride, crash and SINGLE-KICK like everyone else. then we'll see how good he is.

Joey Castillo of QOTSA will sometimes only use SD, BD & FT, which he can make sound amazing.
