i've never heard of them before. that probably means they will either be very cheap beginer cymbals or much higher end cymbals by a very small company.

I've seen and "heard" of them, but I can't prove my statement of them being "much higher end cymbals by a very small company". I wouldn't say much higher end cymbals, but I don't think they're bad. I think they're comparable to like Meinl. but maybe I'm completely wrong. I really haven't tested out any yet.

i've researched them, but i've never seen or heard an anatolian cymbal in real life. i think they fall into the category of "much higher end cymbals by a very small company", but i don't know for sure. they have a fairly decent web site:

Turkish cymbals are great! Just like Istanbul, Masterwork, Turkish and Bospherous. They beat every Zildjian, Paiste or Meinl cymbal easily.

so I take it you have tried every cymbal of every line and size from the top 3 then?

No I didn't, but I have heard a lot of Paiste's Zildjian's and Meinl's, and the difference is just too big between the factory-cymbals and handhammered cymbals.

sabian make hand hammered cymbals, zildjian use a machine which emulates hand hammering and paistes... well paistes are heavily machined but they still sound kick *** :P

I wouldn't say that. Its all preference. I agree, though. Except for Paiste Dark Energy Mark 1's, which I like just as much, maybe more.

no, but I never made the assumption that they where better or worse than other brands :thumb:

sonically, if your after "turkish-tone" traditional hand-hammered brands (ie. istanbul) will be better, than IMO zildjian come in next, followed closely by sabian. Paiste are on another sonic spectrum really.

Well...the Masterwork crash I've got doesn't have the "turkish tone", it just sounds so extremely bright, almost without overtones, and that's why I love it so much. With zildjian A's and K's you always have those annoying overtones.

Well...that's my experience with Zildjians, when you hit them real softly, you can't get a nice bright tone.

Like I said...A's and K's (both custom). We had them at our music school...the only cymbal I liked was the K, but still I prefer brighter cymbals.

that's generally the idea, the softer you hit them, the less bite and brightness they have.

I know they are really different, but I've always liked Paiste.

I see paiste in your future then.

Nope, Masterwork :) I prefer hand hammered cymbals, and especially the one I've already got. A Masterwork 15" resonant series crash. Paiste and all those major companies don't attract me because of their machine hammered cymbals. With hand hammered cymabls, the producers of the cymbals actually listen to the cymbals instead of getting them out of the oven.

Nothing wrong with Zildjian, Paiste, Meinl, sabian, but it;s not my type of coffee, and I just like cymbals sound great, not just sounding good :p
