My year 11 music class had to perform a concert. We were made to go start ensembles but we really didn't get much time at all to practice and the only times we did get to practice were on friday afternoons so we ended up just mucking around.

Concert comes around, we have one quick rehearsal before the night begins and then we play first up. It's a bit sketchy, but meh, it's fun.

the begining didnt really work i think, not the china and the tom fills anyway. also...whats the point of having the toms setup on two different stands?there almost in exactly the same spot. i like the fills. overall, neat :D

It's easier to get the 10 inch over the bass drum on the snare stand.

I just find it easier to set up and it saves me from having heaps of crap leaning off one stand.

Yeah.. our rehearsal before hand was actually really awesome, but when we played it for real it kinda dryed up. Oh well, fun little jam, I just wish it went for a bit longer and I made more opportunity of it and overplayed. :D

-edit-
Also, with the 10" on a snare stand it's easier to set up. I just unfold the stand and put the tom in and it's easier to set my kit up around that, my snare, my hi hats, which are all still up to speck while my other cymbal stands and such are all folded up and have to be re-set up. If that makes any sense, I can't really think straight at the moment, sorry.

Didnt look or sound like the other guys were all that experienced, they were pretty stiff and kind of seem lost while you looked like you were having fun.

Dane (curly dark haired guitarist) knows what he was doing and Kraig (bassist) is a solid bassist. Nick I'm not too sure about, he hasn't had a lot of experience playing infront of people. Dane is very metal and is a great metal/shred kind of guitarist (Joe Satriani/Kirk Hammet/Vai kind of guitarist (yeah, I know, I put hammet in with those two, some guitarists will probably shoot me down but I say that because he's a big Hammet fan) but, as with a lot of metal guitarists, he plays it like he's half asleep. Kraig is a guitarist first most (or probably a trumpetist before that) but has picked up bass in the past year or 2 and has really improved at it.

Side note: Kraig was the guitarist in my now dead band, so we're pretty used to playing together. We linked musically but not so much as friends all the time. :P

I try to look like I'm having fun because then if you make mistakes people don't seem to notice as much. And it was kinda fun too, basic beat, just groove around everywhere, chuck in a nice basic fill now and then, doesn't really take loads of concentration.

Anyway, thanks for the comments! :)

Not a bad jam...although I don't think that deth-metal distortion sound coming from the rythem guitar player fit in. But I do know how in practice a jam can be really tight and good but when live time comes around...just not the same.

It didnt seem very driven. Everyone was intent to stay on that chord for the whole jam session. And the feel was the same. You could have shifted the time feel...or one of the other members could have lead the music in a different direction.

This is all constructive...cause you played well, but the music isnt at its potential.

You should take time to study jazz...not just jazz drumming, but jazz itself. Miles Davis led a ton of jam sessions (notably at Woodstock) that progressed amazingly, because of his ability to lead his band through changes.

Yeah, I intend to. And yeah, as I said, the whole thing was pretty badly planned and we didn't want to be too adventurous because our teacher's a bit.. oh, I dunno.. annoying..

Anyway yeah, I'm getting more into brushes and jazz, and as I'm doing drums as my VCE subject (music, with drums as my instrument) and I intend to do Music/Arts at University I really should focus on more jazz because you have to get in on audition and I don't think my guitar/violin/vocal skills are quite up to scratch to get me in.
