Hey! I'm in a cover band and i find it very difficult to play a song exactly as it is. Just wondering if it would make more sense to forget the details, such as ghost notes, accents, buzzes etc. and just keep the beat. How would you go about covering a song??

i think thats a good idea. the beats and rhythyms create the feel and propel the songs. once you have that down you can add to it with fills (even your own!) and such once you play it naturally..

Well if your covering tunes it would be a good idea to remain at least "somewhat" faithfull to the original.

i remain faithful, but i usually make the part more of a groove if it allows
(I.E. - if the part seems kinda stiff sounding in the original, i'll try and make it seem more flowing)

You really need to pick out the most important parts of the songs. Drum fills arent really necessary to cover it well, however certain drum parts stick in peoples head,(drummers and non- drummers alike.) Its pretty important to try and fit these parts in.
