When buying, is it better to buy in packages or individually?

Package deals usually have better prices altogether, and if you're looking at getting a whole set of cymbals (crash, hats, ride) then you would be better off with the set. Although some people will recommend mixing and matching cymbals and this is a good way to do it also. You should go with what you like the sound of the best.

Individually.
As much as I love the Ziljian A's, I wouldn't want a whole set comprised of that series. I personally prefer to mix it up with some other brands.

You also get to test the cymbal your buying.

I would go for individual, that way you get a individuality in your cymbal set-up.

Anyway, I love A's and plan on having a ton of them, same with K's, but I still wouldn't buy the box. What if i didn't like the sound of that ride. There is individuality in cymbals regardless of if they have the same name and size.

Individually for sure. Much easier to blend different sounds together :thumb:

i'd say individually, but i myself have 2 A custom crashes and a 22" medium ride which i got all at the one time. it just so happened that i really liked them all, not that i wanted to get all the same line of cymbal. buy what you like!

Try and get a package deal where you can test the cymbals first.
Best of both worlds. :)

oh i see what you mean.. i thought they only did packages like that with lower end cymbals like ZBT's. i would never touch anything like that, you need to buy each cymbal as an individual, don't just grab a box off the shelf and buy it. you're taking a real risk if you do.

Yep every cymbal is different, packs = no good.

I was just gonna comment on your avatar Jimbo. Louie is the man, dig his use of the Sweet ride. :thumb:.
But yeah, packages are risky because you can get a lemon, same deal with ordering. I don't mean crappy cymbals, I just mean... cymbals you don't overly like. Eric has an 18" AA Medium that's higher pitched than his 16" AA Medium... you can end up with a lemon like that.

i would get them 1 at a time. cause you might want a different cymbal that isint in the pack.
