I posted a question a couple of weeks ago about drum wrap, and the fact that I was concerned about the effect of cold or hot temps if I stored the drums in my garage. I was also concerned about whether they would be affected by leaving them in my car for short periods. The majority of the replies I got mainly said that they would advise against storing them in my garage where they would be either subject to extreme cold in the Winter or extreme hot in the Summer because this could cause the wrap on my drum shells to either peel off or bubble. I've posted this same question on a few other drum forums and got back a reply from a fellow drummer which I thought I'd share with you and possibly comment on.
Here is the reply:

I've been storing my working kits, Gretsch wraps, in my garage for the last few years without a problem.

I live in Texas, and temp in the garage varies from near zero to past 110. The drums are doing just fine. They've also been left in the back of my minivan for many hours in the summertime, and again there's been no problem.

What causes problems with wrap, IMO, is direct sunlinght. Mere heat and cold have little or no effect. Keep your drums out of the sun and you'll be fine.

I had to store my drums in a garage for a while too in the Canadian winter and there were no problems so even though I wouldnt recommend it they seem to stand up to most situations.

i disagree with your friend. the wrap on one of my floor toms has bubbled from heat (approximately 40 celsius) and that was in a well ventilated garage..

Ya heat can cause the glue to loosen and the wrap to bubble or slowly come off.

I don't think you should chance it. Any time you expose the drum to changes in temperature and humidity, you take a chance on the glue losing it's stickiness. Also, the drum is expanding and contracting which may also cause the wrap to come undone. It may only happen to one in four kits, but do you want to be the one?

I had a lacquered kit that I used to keep in the car or garage after gigs and the clear coat cracked on the kick drum. I never did it again!
