I think OCDP and their 40 ply snares have nothing on this drum. It appears as if the shell is a whopping 2" thick- and its a solid shell!

It probably has zero tone whatsoever. The only thing I can see it possibly working in is a high volume, totally unmiced situation, but even then I dunno.

"Utter Crap. Anything with a shell that thick is toneless. Rock the vintage 3 plys."
3 ply all the way. Old school!
This drum is absurd. It's a novelty, and one that most likely carriers a mamuth price tag.

I would if it was my snare! But the same company that makes these drums made that solid shell up top:

they could've made it themselves as a one off. keller companise don't have to always use keller shells i understand.. i thought they just bought them in batches and didn't have contractual obligations.

The pic of that solid shell is from their webpage, as they are claiming it to be their own drum. Also, in their price list, they have 6-50 ply snare drums as well as solid shell drums. So I do think this is their creation.

My snare, 1.5 inches thick. The picture makes it look thicker than it is because of the angle of the bearing edge. I love the sound of his snare, and many people agree with me. Its loud, has a ton of crack and is very dry. For people who like a ringy snare a thick one is not for you. The only thing bad about the snare is the weight. Its a good 20 lbs just because its purple heart.

Theres a point where it's just overkill. I like everything to be a nice happy medium. That way tuning and such can be adjusted for all situations.

didnt steve smith use a 37 ply snare that had a shell about that thick about a year back? i could be wrong about it.
anyway if you think that would have some crack to it, what would it sound like if it was solid steel

A snare that thick will have alot of tone, but will also be very quiet as opposed to many peoples initial thoughts.

Sorry I don't have any audio. The Drum is at my jam space right now. I'll try to get a sound clip next time i'm there. I've had many compliments on this snare. I let a friend use it in his metal band one night. The drum was un mic'd and overpowered 2 4x12 cabinets.
As someone stated it is a personal prefference. I use an Evan ST to get the dry sound on my stock Gretsch Snare, Its just the sound I go for. I like the batter head fairly tight but don't like much ring so the thick snare works our perfect for me. If I were to make another stave it woul be a thick one, probably only an inch. I just didn't want to waste half an inch of purple heart which is pretty expensive.

Truth, they use Kellers and Gold-N-Times. Pretty sure its not them.
Actually, Truth uses shells from Joshua Tree and when you order from joshua they go by thickness(1/2", 1", 1 1/2" and 2")
You can get a jarrah snare shell for only 270$, thats an awesome deal if you ask me.
