a full octave(spelling?)lower than a regular guitars strings?and are the 4 strings on the bass the same as the four lower on the guitar only an octave lower?e,g,b,d,?

....it wont work, unless you buy some incredibly high tension strings that are ma....no, bollocks to it, it wont work

well.. the strings would be unplayably wobbly. you would have to get bass strings and mess with the bridge to get them to fit. i have actuallyu seen someone do this to a classical guitar, but its prob not a project you would want to try on a good guitar.

yeah, i mean (as my drummer just put so well) you could probably hang it off the wall at that tension, and to attempt to play it....i mean even downtuning 4 or 5 steps makes it sillily unplayable....but a whole 12? not a chance

with a varia my string tension stays the same but through the software it can be set up 12 octaves down for a bass

It's a Variax guitar. Line 6 make them.
They are a modelling guitar, you can edit all the tonal characteristics (pick-up placement, type, positioning, tuning) etc, electronically from your computer and store them in the guitar as pre-sets.
I want one :).
And I think by "12 octaves" he meant "12 half-steps/semitones" because 12 octaves down would not be properly audible.
