i'm not sure if the grounding is the problem, but my problem seems consistent with a grounding issue. whenever i turn the volume up on my amp, with everything set to flat EQ, if i take my hands off the strings or bridge i get some bad hiss or something (i can't really describe the sound well, maybe like a hum?). but when i touch the strings again, it isn't as bad. is this an electronics grounding problem, or something else? how do i fix it?

i don't know. what do you mean?
im pretty sure its just a bass thing, all of the basses and amps ive ever tried do that. Maybe by a pedal or something that you can use to silence the signal? Thats what i do, just drop the volume pedal on my ME-50B compeltly, no buzz.

It's static guys, comes from your tv and all things with an electrical field... when I'm playing through my computer I can hear it when the tv is turned on... it's really annoying. The only way to do stop it/reduce the problem is line your electric compartment with copper... but I doubt it fixes the problem

got the same 'problem' too... guess its some kind of electrical field stuff with the neon lights in practice room... just touch some metal string or mechanic or bridge or sth... or turn off every electric device close to bass/amp
i noticed some slight difference of the hum when playing around with groundlift though...

Yeah, it's "electric fields" or whatever to call it. I can sometimes when I have my amp on hear the sound level of the buzz go significantly up. I don't know but it could be when someone else in the house turns on a machine of some kind.
Also, I think the buzz is much lower with my new bass (music man) than with my old (crappy asama).
EDIT: also, when I turn my old tv on, that's about 1,5-2 meters from the amp, i can hear a change in the buzz.
