So, my birthday is in 2 days.. well less than 2 days. I have an ibanez 20 watt soundwave right now, and it's terrible. I was hoping to get something good, but not too pricey. I'll cut to the point, I want a bass amp with power, and great tone from about 50 to preferably 75 or 100 watts. Suggestions would be great, but I know I want to try some out at the store. Your opinions would help narrow my search greatly. (Sorry if my grammar is sloppy, I'm exhausted.)

Through window shopping I've decided on a couple to try:
Fender Bassman 60
Peavey Basic 112
Kustom KBA65X
Fender Rumble 60
Fender Bassman 150 (Probably out of my budget)
Ampeg BA112 50
Fender Rumble 100
Peavey TKO 115
Kustom KMA65X

I don't know, that's just to give you an idea of what I'm looking at. Also tell me if you think I should probably go up in wattage or what? Remember, I'm open to all opinions.

Also I'll most likely be running my guitar through this amp since my guitar amp is a piece of poopy. Just saying.

wow, someone wants an amp with a lot power and great tone? imagine that.
anyways, out of that list, either the Rumble 100 or the Ampeg. Though for your situation

fender > ampeg

the ampeg has a much nicer tone IMO, but that amp is overpriced. The fender can produce a decent tone and will be plenty loud for you. So overall, the fender is a much better value IMO.

Yeah, yeah. You know that there's people on this forum who'd say "This one's great for your budget, but it has terrible tone."

Rumble 100 is one I've been meaning to try out for exactly a year now.

out of your list, that would really be your best option in my eyes.

I'd go for sixner's Peavey.

from what i hear, the rumble series is pretty nice... ampegs (like pickle said) are over price, but if you can find used - good condition, it might be worth it... Peaveys are indestructible, and have a decent tone (depending on what kind your talkin about anyways) with good power behind it. (being heard over drummer, vocals, and 2 guitar's).. kustoms are nice, imo.. i've got a kba10.

What exactly IS your price range? you've got a variety of amps listed..

Well all the amps listed are between $230 and $400 (with the exception of 1). But $400 would definately be pushing it.. I'd say about $300.

I really wish I could, but my mom's pretty much afraid of the internet and buying things off of it. Out of curiosity how much would shipping be? I bet the total price is going to make me cringe at how much money I'm really wasting.

.

First- try them before you buy them.
Two- don't buy the new Fender Bassman. Speakers are too small, unless you like bee-in-a-can sounds. (you never know)
Stay away from SS Ampegs- especially the cheap ones.
Fender Rumble 100 is aight for the price- nothing amazing, but it would get the job done. I think. I have never used one outside of a music store.
Avoid Kustom. They are kinda hit or miss. We use their stuff for monitors when the venue doesn't supply a PA- it used to be our PA, and it does the job, but I have always been disappointed with their amps.
Can't go wrong with a Peavey, as far as durability. Tone is usually aight, not goo or bad.

YMMV

i just bought a 100w fender rumble and it cost 300$ and i think its amazing
before i bought it i played an ampeg that costed like 450$ and i thought the rumble was way better. so if a 100w is big enough for you i suggust the fender rumble, that way you get amazing tone and power and save yourself 200 bucks

Wow. Your math sucks.

Anyways, to the thread starter. I would not go for Sixner's Peavey. Why, you ask. Well, not to offend Sixner cuz I am sure he is a great guy, but I don't know him and neither do you. And buying from someone you know online is bad idea. Cuz even if he goes above and beyond his duty, gives you a great deal on the amp and all, and then you don;t like it, you will blame him for it. And it can happen the other way, if he discovers he could've gotten more for it locally. And we don't need any more arguing on the forums.

Just my $0.10. (had to adjust for inflation)

That's kinda ridiculous. Why would either of them blame each other. That would take immaturity on both parts.

not so sure about your math either but I thought pretty highly of my Rumble 100 before I bought a head/cab. It is a basic eq but I think it works really well and the mid-scoop switch adds even more. I also bought the Rumble over the Ampeg BA115 after trying them both

I'm not offended, i see where your comin from. but it'd be the same if he bought it used from a pawn shop? If he doesnt like it either, simpley sell it? and me yelling at him cause i could have gotten more?... that's....just... bizzare. If i want more for it, i'd up the price. I've seen how some of these go, but i've lowered my orig. price cause i need to get rid of it.

i really doubt there would be an argument over this

hey sixner hwo big is the speaker and how much does that amp weigh casue i might be willing to look at it for a substitute for my TKO65 as long as its about same size

sixner
11-08-2005, 02:17 PM
its a 1x15 speaker. weight is... 70 lbs roughly. im not sure of the exact weight... but, yes... (just looked up the tko65) it's the same size, just a higher wattage and better EQ'ing.

Hey, I'm just advising.
I've seen it happen before, on TalkBass and UG.
And Ebay.
And basically anytime someone sells something.
There are all kinds of things that can cause it, I was just giving examples.
(ie, it could be missing a knob or a screw, and he could forget to mention it, and the buyer gets pissed.) I've seen it.
And the payment could take a while, or shipping might cost more than you expected, and the seller feels cheesed.
Don't laugh- stuff like this happens ALL THE TIME.

i understand what your saying, but..

I personally wouldn't do that to a fellow MX'er.. i'd obviusly send him real pictures of the entire cab. No broken knob's, screws... everythings intact. I wouldn't ship untill i get payment, which using Paypal, only takes mear second's to have it transfered to another account.... Shipping cost, i have no control over that. If the buyer has a problem, they've got no right to yell at me for the companies cost, and i think most people on here have enough sense to realize that..

Sorry for the hold up, but I've been busy, you know, the birthday thing's going on. Ha, anyways, I was kind of dissapointed this birthday because I only got about $175. But, good news is I'm getting a job in the near future at Hollywood Video, so I'll most likely be able to save up enough. Oh, and if you're still curious or whatever my zip code is 32701, Sixner. Thanks for all of the responses and help.
