Hey guys,

I've got a recording/computer problem. I've been using Cool Edit Pro 1.0 to do some multitrack recording on an older computer with no problems. I recently bought a new Compaq presario and a Sound Blaster Live 24-bit sound card. I loaded the program onto my new computer and tried recording some tracks onto an existing multi-track recording that I was working on with the old computer. Unfortunately, when I record a track it doesn't line up correctly. When I play it back, there's a significant delay between the playback of the old tracks and the one I just recorded.

Has anyone here had a similar problem? I'm running Windows XP SP 2. I've already gone through all the Sound Blaster and Windows sound settings a million times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's called latency, and it's a fundamental part of digital audio. Try finding and installing ASIO drivers (google for Wuschell's ASIO4ALL), if CE1.0 is ASIO compatible, that might help.

It'll never go away though, so I suggest you get good at lining things up by hand, or spend some money on near-zero latency devices to get rid of it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to find those drivers.
