Frankly-bass_guy's piece was exceptionally sub par, especially by his standards. Plus-I have a feeling people are voting for him just because he's bass_guy, and they are pre-disposed to his "skill."

I didn't want to vote as I thought they both equally good, but I went for Bassguy's tune in the end.

Rik's was pretty repetitive and the end was a bit duff. Good for the most part though.

I went on groove factor to vote on this. And while both were, without a doubt, funky, I flowed more with Bassguy's.

Crits
Bass_guy: Much less "busy" than I'm used to hearing you put out. That makes this better on some parts but worse on others. There are some parts of the song that make the white man in me want to attempt to dance, and other parts that just really don't interest me. The former outweighs the later though. I also love popped chords, so that might have something to do with it.

Rik: The slapping is very very very good, but almost the entire piece feels like a pause in a song for a short bass solo. Maybe it's the tone or something. Also you speed up and slow down a couple times, and while no one is perfect, it was obtrusive enough to kind of kill the groove for me.

For the record I could not perform either of these pieces... because I suck the nut. I hope the crit is helpful though.

rik: i like my songs to have some sort of direction or underlining melody yours was kinda of lacking but it did have one just one that i didnt really like

bassguy: liked the song but it was too short

Bass_guys was awesome, I wasn't expecting any less of him. I'm appreciative of any votes I get, scoring points against Bass_guy is no easy task.

Edit: Holy ****, i've actually gone ahead. I wonder how long that will last...

Good entry dude, doesn't surprise me a bit that we're tied right now, and it won't surprise me a bit if you kick my *** in the end :lol: .

Crits: Very solid at the beginning, but in the middle when you get to the doublethumbing bar chords, it gets a bit sloppy. Composition needs some work, it's very pentatonic, i see a lot of squares when I listen to it (7-9-7-9-7-5-7-9 etc...). My only beefs. :thumb:

The song starts with an awesome heavy type of slapping and then turns into an awesome melodic part. For me, i had a problem with the change between each section. Each section was quality but the transitions between each one didn't flow imo well together. The piece is quality but i think with better transitions between each parts would make it work better.

Rik: Although the piece does groove, i just didn't find the piece interesting enough. I think you can groove really well and got some quality technique but to make your entry more interesting i would add more fills and maybe make the transitions more interesting.

This is only my opnion, My vote goes to bass guy because i think each section was more interesting to me than rik's.

Good job both of you though :D

i felt kinda let down by each of these songs, still great, but they dont really have anything on other stuff you have done before. In the end i went bass_guy, mainly cuz he kept it more interesting throughout...

but hey - what would i know, i got kicked out in the first round :D

Yeesh, difficult. Being a drummer, I wouldn't know anything about the technical differences between the two- I'd happily get my sticks into either of them though. But for pure 'comfort' and maybe more groove ideas, I'd probably have to go with Bassguy. I thought they were both very good though.

Great entries, both of you. I noticed a couple fumbles in each of them, especially with Bassguy going between sections, but both entries were very impressive.

For chops and melodically interesting riffs, I gave my vote to Bassguy.

What setup were each of you using?
Lakland skyline deluxe bass through my 65 watt laney amp. I plugged my mic straight into the computer and just recorded onto the sound recorder program in windows.

Yamaha BBN4III direct input into my computer. Not bad for passive tone, personally.

Rik - Proposition:

Seems like there's no absolute winner for this one... The biggest lead I've seen was by 5 or 6, and there's no real limit on when the votes stop, so.

Since you wanted to record a different entry, and I definitely wanted to as well, why don't we give ourselves the next 4 or 5 days to get in a new entry each, and give ourselves a vote limit of 25 or something, so whether it's 3-25, or 24-25, '25' wins.

This was touching the third page and there really isn't a runaway. We'll do actual rules if you agree to it.

It's your call, just reply here.

I liked Riks more than bassguys, they had some pretty impressive slapping but to be honest, I thought both as actually songs were fairly annoying to listen to, they would have been much better as bass lines

Round four is the final, but you got a bi to round three so you did not have to take part in round two. From what I gather, Its is roee and me in the semi along with you and riouken (I think) also in the semi. The round after that will be the final.

Either that or you are already in the final and the winner of roee and me goes against you.
I was against Riouken so I think Rollo is in the final against whoever wins between us.

I basicly have an entry right now that i just made but since i rather make something else i'm going to make it a reserved entry so that if i don't have the time to make another entry i'll just used that one.

so i guess it depends on how much time you have
