I hear good things about the new range of Ashdown pedals, and one of them's an envelope filter.

http://www.ashdownmusic.co.uk/bass/products/pedal_ef.jpg

Capable of a wide range of effects from auto-wah through to spaced-out, auto-triggered funky tones, the sweep of the filter can be either up or down with selection of band-pass or high pass filter modes. A peak control is provided to deepen the ‘Q’ for more extreme effects and the depth of the effect is controlled by the volume of each note as it’s played, making this a truly creative and dynamic pedal.

The pedal is housed in a durable metal case and features an input level control with a trademark illuminated Ashdown VU meter to allow optimum signal matching from any instrument – active or passive. The pedal also features an output level control – essential for obtaining the perfect balance between the effect and the true bypass mode.

Worth a look.

Are they released then?

I thought they were... but now looking around, I'm not so sure... which is weird, as they've been touting them since April.

They're on soundslive

Ah, so they are. £89.

I want to try them out, they look like good pieces of kit. Analogue bypass, wet/dry output control and an analogue VU meter just to top it off.

Hmm I also want to try a Chorus/delay/flanger! But.. for that price, it might have at least 2 channels. So you can put delay/chorus into one song

Or it must blow every other pedal away..

Hmm, does the Digitech synth bass compare in terms of what you want?

Would a guitar wah work?

Not very well.

Wah is basically a form of EQ - in technical terms it's a parametric spike with a narrow Q-factor and a high gain, with the frequency linked to an expression pedal - so for best effect, a wah pedal has to be set to work on a certain frequency band.

Simply put - the bass is too low for the guitar wah to work properly.

I've got a DigiTech Bass Synth Wah, and it puts a good wah on low notes, even with detuning. It's got a fair amount of other features other than autowah too, so you might want to check it out.

I use a guitar wah on bass, I think it sounds pretty killer.

I've used both on bass and the bass version are obviously superior. Guitar wah on bass actually does have its use, though.

I think if you have a hard enough attack (hard fingerstyle or a pick), a guitar wah does fine, but if you don't use either of those, you're best off with a bass wah.

Ibanez SB-7.. it's got 2 synth's and an autowah... you can find them for roughly $20 (used USD), and for that price are great pedal's... but i think i would prefer a boss. IMO... it's worth a look though.

Settings for an autowah on the XBW? I have one but haven't found an autowah setting I liked.

Good point - there are no hard and fast rules about what'll sound good. :)

The guitar wah will not affect the lower frequencies the bass produces. However, that may be just the sound you're after, in some circumstances. :thumb:

I also happen to have the dunlop crybaby from hell....with selectable frequency range.
