Tenor Sax player Michael Brecker is dying and needs a matching bone marrow donor. It's no more difficult than giving blood. He's a world-famous jazz musician and has worked with Mingus, Chick Corea, Joni Mitchell, Jaco Pastorius, Sinatra, Frank Zappa, Bruce Springsteen, Steely Dan, Pat Methany, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and others. It says that someone of "Eastern European Jewish" heritage would most likely be a match.

It's not exactly on-topic, but the guy's dying and the word needs to be spread. I guess this could be stickied if the mods approve.

I think it'd be more helpful to make people aware of this kind of thing in general, but it's a bit (I can't think of the right word)...to think that just because he's famous he's somehow more deserving?

Eh, maybe I'm cynical, but something about the idea bothers me.

Best of luck to him, though.

I get what you're saying, but this is a music forum and he is a musician who is asking for help from other musicians (us). The Bass Player link says if you get tested and don't match, you can still help others who match your type.

This has merit, yes, but I'm not sure it merits a sticky. Perhaps in the Jazz and Funk forum?
