Can you guys recommend some ood bass heads that are just for like powering my cab like i dont care about tone shaping and what not because i like the tone i get direct from my basses. right now my head is a hartke3500 and i never use the equalizer so i think i might sell it and just get a plane jane head (wtf?)

u could look at power amps on most major online music stores

Yes. i suppose, that in all actuallity you could use a power with no pre, but, i couldnt garuntee what it would sound like. I would recommend getting a preamp that has a switchable EQ, so you could just turn it off. That way, you still have the options there if you need them.

so you're going to rely on those basses to supply an eq for you. maybe its me, but i find that a bit ridiculous and i assume you dont care too much about tone.

uh no actually i love the tone that i get from basses and find it pointless for me to use any more eq. when i buy my bass's i make sure i like the tone that i already get from it so it sounds good out of any amp. if you want recordings of my tone i could send you some.
Another thing you could do: Some heads, i think ( i know my behringer combo does) has a Preamp in. You could plug your bass directly into that, and you would still ahve the option of the preamp of the head. The Preamp in skips the preamp section of the head.

well.... i guess if a 3-band eq can fulfill all your tone needs, well, i dont know how to respond to that, but w/e makes you happy i guess. QSC makes inexpensive, but quality p.a.'s

I don't know too much about amps, but I do know that they color the sound. In order to get nothing but the tone of your bass, you would have to spend a ton more than to get a nice tone by using more EQ, becasue a really transparent head will cost quite a bit of money.
