Right now I have a very cheap condenser microphone that worked decently well recording my electric guitar through my Classic 30, but I've sold that gear now. So how does one record acoustic guitar (and eventually vocals) through the computer? Can anyone tell me which mics/placement and why it is thus for recording acoustic?

Your best bet is just to buy another microphone and a stand. You'll want a sound card that has a 1/4" input (aka musicians input), which you'll plug the mic into. Default computer mikes have that really small input thing, the size of the input for ipod headphones etc. the quality is noticably worse on those mics.

No, you'll want

a) a preamp such as the mic200 by behringer, and a soundcard with line input, and all necessary cabling

b) an interface with built-in preamps. For your application, the firebox would do fine.

For a light budget. I'd go with MXL 990/991 OR MXL 990/993 combo package. One condeser (large) for vocals, smaller "pencil" condenser for guitar. This combo may not be "super awesome" "professional studio" equipment, but it is excellent for the amateur musician. As far as recording to a computer, get a decent sound card, and if possible a 10-16 input mixer; I recommed Behringer Eurorack series. I'm still learning about home studio recording, so good luck. It takes work, but it's MORE than worth it in the end.:thumb:
