I'm fishing for a nice sounding, good looking bass guitar. Also i'd prefer if it were an active guitar because the sound of an active is so much more crisp. I play almost anything from ska to punk and a bit of metal.

I'm looking at a selection of three basses all are yamaha...they are:
bb 605
trb-4-II
rbx-375

my first question is .. does yamaha produce a decent quality of bass guitars? I find that they are quite good but what do i know.. I've really only played one bass in my whole life .. and its a Washburn xb-100..

next question is which of the three is a better buy?
yes i do know that two outa those three are 5 strings.. that brings me to my next question..

is 5 strings really worth it..?

Yamaha basses generally are very good, the lower range are good value in their range, and the higher end basses are used by alot of professional bassists.

I think the RBX375 is the best 'value', with the TRB being the best bass (and most expensive).

5 strings are good if you intend to use the extra notes, and if you listen to bands that use them.

I have a Behringer power pack 1. I think ive blown or damaged the top left speaker in the cab. on certain notes it sounds crap - the speaker rattle a horrible sound and its not on very loud at all!
can the speaker be fixed - what needs to be done and at what cost?

please help

hey, i just bought a yamaha fretless TRB and i love the sound i get. also it's a 5 string and i find it really useful, even if u dont use the notes below an E much, it's still good to be playing higher up the fretboard and the 5th string allows you to still get low playing high up the fretboard. mine has active pickups, so i guess the 1 you're looking at would as well, and ska music rocks:)
hope i helped, tim

This bass is one that striked me as crazy looking from the first time i saw it. I dont own it but i am a regular "customer" at my local guitar shops. i have played this bass for maybe an hour. it is one of the most akward things i have hever held and played in my life. the body is just very uncomfertable for me when i sit down and play. when i stand its not a problem but i tend to sit alot so i find it very uncomfertable

I have one, and I find it more comfortable if you put it on your left knee instead of your right (well, i suppose reverse that for you since you are a lefty). Also, I play with a strap while sitting, so that could help some.

A note about any bart-equipped curbow: they have very low output. I had to run in my passive input and still crank the gain. Unless you flip the slap switch, then your tone dies but the output boosts. I havent had a chance to plug in my friend's Mightymite equipped curbow yet.

I'm considering buying either a Fender Dimension IV bass if I can afford it, or a Dean edge 4 (which I know I can afford). I also am thinking about getting a "Behringer Ultrabass BA410 1000 Watt Bass Guitar Speaker with 4 10 inch Speakers & horn" with a BX4500H Bass Head.

Any thoughts?

I know this is going to sound really dumb, being my first post and what I'm about to post about. Just bear with me.

Some of you may know about Dir en grey, a Japanese band that recently had their first US "Tour" (only 3 places but its a start) and are set to tour with Stone Sour, Korn and others this summer.

Their bass player, Toshiya, has been of the biggest influences on me. When I first heard Ryan Martiene of Mudvayne play, I loved the sound and was very into the music. Though, it wasn't until Toshiya that decided playing the bass was what I really wanted to do. I not only loved the way he played, the often times complex bass lines and his stage presence but also more the sound of his bass.

The problem is I have no idea what kind it is or where to find it. Now, this is where I may look dumb -- Here's a picture.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v103/GacktC/espdtr2902kz.jpg

It's decribed and all but I kid you not, I have not been able to find this bass anywhere. I'm very good with computers so it's driving me crazy that I can't find it. The only clue I sort of have is that it is a brand called "Killer", though the picture says ESP.

If anyone knows anything...please let me know!

P.S. If you can get past the language barrier, you'll love Dir en grey (they've been around for 10 years, huge in Japan and are no longer "Visual Kei"). Here's a few youtube clips to really show off Toshiya's skill.

Cage - from their 2nd album in 1998.
Raison Detre - from their 2nd album in 1998.
Undecided - from 4th album in 2000 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0WdvevnV1k)
Children - from 5thalbum in 2002 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNDwMxdmxO0)
Obscure - from 6th album (do NOT watch this if you can't handle some messed up stuff, this is the actual music video, not a live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIaRMnCy9vE)
Dead Tree - from 7th album (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG7H_yHuRWY)
Clever Sleazoid - latest single....yes, the subtitles are what hes trying to say in English lol (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbKTrkFdzu0)
I really love that band..sorry about that. They're worth checking

They look good and reliable, but I'm not sure if I should get either one of them just yet because their prices are remarkably low and, while the guys at the online shop have given a fairly reasonable explanation why the prices are low, cheap things usually tend to be crappier than they look.

Anyone can review them, but it'd help if you're living in Australia.
