Has anyone heard of SUNN 0))), EARTH, or the random bands associated to them?

Supposedly, these bands use huge drop-tunings and creat trance-like soundscapes. BUT, i cannot find any of their music, anywhere.

If anyone has any they would like to share:
AIM: enimspeeks

Thanks

Such a great song.

That one and "Ra at Dusk" are their best songs.

I own all of the six LP's. If you or anyone else wants any, i'm on AIM under "nyobyum". The only one I actually own is Black One, and it's terrific, I would recommend it to anyone.

Same here, I can listen to one song, then the next song starts and it sounds the exact same. It's like the whole album is one long boring song. They have a cool name though.

Right. I like that style of music, but Sunn is somewhat inconsistent. Some songs are great, while other songs don't even seem like songs at all.

great band. I love how the majority of their stuff has no drums or vocals, and their live set up is usually just two downtuned guitars and bass.

I find it almost relaxing to listen to, but yeah it can be frightening at times too. or in the least very depressing.

I only have a random assortment of songs though I am told that their first album, 00void is their best.
Sunn 0))) is really a side project of one of the members of Khanate which is also higly reccomended band in this genre.

one hsow, apparently, for 40minutes they stood behind a wall of amps, and continuosly played one guitar string, and like mesmerized the mosh.
and another, they played in such low pitch, that people felt the need to rush to the bathrooms during the set. they felt their bowels vibrating and chruning mounds of ****

does anyone want to offer to upload some drone/sludge/doom/stoner R&M albums and we can set up a small weekly mailing list to send out some albums. however i must note that i doubt anyone really has a lot of drone/sludge/doom/stoner albums, so the mailing list might only last a mere month or so?

I don't like either of those bands :-/. Then again, I haven't given Moon D))) a good listen, so I may have to check them out again.

Sunn O))) is great. I own Flight of The Behemoth and have three other albums on mp3 (White 2, Black 1, and 00 Void).

Some more good Drone is Fall of the Grey Winged One. More ambient than Sunn O))), but still the same general idea. Boris is excellent too, though not alot like Sunn O)).

Lastly, I haven't heard any Earth yet. Anyone have any reccomendations?

To whoever asked: Sunn O))) is simply pronounced "sun", the O))) part is just a symbol.

Also since some of you were talking about their live show, a friend of mine went and saw them at the Roskilde festival in Denmark. Basically they all dress as Druids and generally they played for a continous 50 minutes or so droning away. He wasn't a fan so I couldn't ask if he recognized anything, but yeah either they decide chord progressions before the show or they meld songs together I'm not entirely sure.

The guitarists lift their guitars above their head after each chord as in worship of some strange god.......I so want to see them live!!!

no offense, but dont upload 6 albums from the same artist..... people who are previously unfamiliar to a band, arent going to suddenly download 6 of their albums. one album, possibly two.....and include a writeup of how the albums differ and the different musical direction on each and the reason you like each album, so that people have a reason to download both, rather than just one. trust me though, dont upload 6 albums from one artist.

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. I have to say I am still affected by seeing SunnO)). It was so wild. Your standing there and the music enters you through your feet and body, it fills you, the singer cries out in half anger- half sorrow screams that speak your soul, then the riff changes and it pulls away leaving you with a sense of longing, of loss, to then change again to refill you, almost like having intercourse with the sound. It brought tears to my eyes. It’s strange but it released and opened up many things I been holding in. The cd's are wonderfull but SunnO))) has to been see in person to understand what the music real is!!!!

I have The Grimmrobe Demos.

It's pure rubbish.

I sort of like their cover of For Whom the Bell Tolls. And maybe another song or two I can't remember the name of.
Good review on it by the way. Even though I like Sunn 0))) :thumb:

Check out Wolf eyes.

Great band, Stabbed in the face is a brilliant track, Drone is one of the best and most original metal genres to appear in the last few years.

Where can I get some samples to listen to, for Sunn O)))?

The Southern Lord website is cool, but no Sunn O))). Khanate and Earth seem like good bands.

I don't really like Khanate. The vocals seemed to high for the style, and it seemed to be too much of a dissonance for me.

So, I'd be interested in trading for a Sunn 0))) album, if it's possible. I don't exactly have a lot of doom or drone or death or black metal to trade, but I'd be happy with even a sampler, if it's possible.

This is a link to my old list, for what it's worth:

Bingo bango bongo (http://www.recordnerd.com/lists/mayorofjomington).

Feel free to shoot me an e-mail (frozeninshadows(at)gmail.com) if you have any requests - I'm willing to swap more than one album with you for one album of yours, if that's fine with you.

Sorry for the weaker list :upset:

I just picked up "Amplifier Worship" and "Akuma No Uta" by Boris...fantastic stuff.

They seem to vary their albums a little, one song being drone, another being stoner rock, another being just noise. "Ganbow-Ki" off AW starts off as a drone piece, but melts into an almost Psychedelic jam song, before switching right back into drone.

"Ibitsu" off Akuma is a classic Boris stoner rock song. Very cool guitar and vocal work.

Their website lets you download a song off the album, here's some links.

If anyone has any stuff from Earth, please let me know, i'm dying to hear some.
