MH is a great band... "through the ashes of empires" is an amazing album, its one of my all time favourites.

"Burn my eyes" is great too, and the song "A nation on fire" just rocks... especially the end... wow

Machine Head are excellent, see them live if you can, great stuff. I'm planning on buying their new live DVD soon anyway, I still think Burn My Eyes is the best to date, TTAOE was also brilliant, I have to say, I wasn't too keen on all the other records but am looking forward to whatever future albums they release, they seem to be getting "back on track" again :thumb:

The only thing I don't like about Machine Head is that, they are a good band and everything, but with every album they seem to be following the trends in what is popular in metal...the two prime examples I could think of are Supercharger and Through The Ashes of Empires. Supercharger's sound was heavily defined by nu-metal characteristics; there was even a little bit of rapping going on, barely a solo to be heard, etc...THAOE's sound was pretty metalcore-ish if you ask me...I mean, it was still Machine Head, it was still mostly groove, but they had those elements that just made them seem like a metalcore band. "Imperium" showcases what I'm talking about. I'm not saying it's a bad song, I just hate how they change their sound constantly. I don't know if it's to fit in with what's popular or what, but it just gets on my nerves for some reason.

Maybe it happens because they are influenced by the new genres and bands popping up, which you are going to hear in their music.

OT: my friend likes them very much. They're OK, not fully my taste, but OK. Imperium is a great song!

Incredible live band, see them and make sure you join the circle pit.
I own first album and last album and like them very much.

As for them following "trends" I will say that Burn My Eyes does bring to mind Pantera at times, and Supercharger does seem like a numetal album from the bits I have heard. Their latest album however I would not call "metalcore-ish" as some have said. It lacks the breakdowns, Gotenburg riffs and vocals of metalcore for me to merit proper comparison
I would say that Empires is more of a mixture of their orignal sounds and their Supercharger/Burning Red sound. And their best album at that.

Saw them live last summer at a festival and at first I wasn't even planning on going to see them but a friend of mine draged me along. They ended up as one of the best acts of the day for me. Old and Davidian would be my favirite songs since then and they closed with Walk from Pantera so you could probably say they are big Pantare fans.

I don't know why I like it so much, maybe the constant variation in the song writing. Like one song is fast and rappy while the next is slower and more melodic.

Take Blank Generation for instance, that's a real slow song, but after the second chorus, it's really fast. And Trephination, again a pretty slow verse, but then it speeds up a lot.

Through The Ashes Of Empires brought a lot of the old-school fans back I guess, as it's completely different to The Burning Red or Supercharger. TTAOE like said above is like a combination of BME, TMTC and TBR. It's awesome.

I bought it yesterday, and it is really good. The show is awesome, with pretty much all the best songs covered, the documentary is pretty good with some good interviews, and the 'making of's for the three videos are pretty good too. Well worth the money.

But for it's time....Burn My Eyes is sonically, brilliant, every single note on that album is played and you can't help get immersed in it, you don't get that with any other of their records IMO.
