i've got a little acoustic show coming up, and i need to figure out how i'm going to go through the PA. i have an MXL 2001 condenser, a behringer xm8500 dynamic, and a really cheap, crappy best buy dynamic. for miking an acoustic guitar in a live situation, would using the condenser be ok? i have trouble sitting still, i'm afraid it's gonna get all kinds of noise every time i move, plus whatever other background noise there may be.
my choices are using the condenser for guitar and the XM8500 for vocals, or using the xm8500 for guitar and the crappy best buy mic for vocals. i only do limited backing vocals, so it's not a big deal if it doesn't sound great. but which of these would work best?

a large-d condenser live is risky

Like the previous poster said, any large-diaphram condenser will be bad times live. Those mics are exclusivley for recording. Plus, condersers are pretty fragile/easy to damage internally. So you wouldn't want to break it would you? Good luck, anyhow.

typically speaking, you can get away with more for a smaller acoustic show.

Using the condenser should be okay in terms of not breaking it, unless you feel the need to get up and start jumping around for some reason. As for picking up all the little movements and stuff onstage, well, you'll need to play with your mic positioning and preferred gain settings. Usually putting the mic about 6 inches away with moderate gain will be okay. Live environments are noisy anyway, and so long as your playing loud enough that the mic is getting mostly guitar sound there shouldn't be too much wrong with it. Also, make sure that the PA isn't "amplifying" your guitar so much as "re-enforcing" it. For small acoustic gigs especially, you only want the PA to provide clarity in the soft parts, and never really get "loud" to anyone in the audience beyond what you'd want them to hear if it was just you and one other person in a small room together. Pumping the PA too loudly kills the intimate feel of the small gig.

Mosephs right. You don't want it to feel like the only sound is coming from 'some speakers'.
