awww, this time I will bring a pen and get my ticket signed hopefully. But it was funny when I met the drummer 'cause I walked into the bog and saw him taking a piss and I froze. When I finally got some words out all I said was, "holy sh*t are you Brann Dailor?! dude I saw you at Slayer and you were f*cking awesome, all your music is complete jizz material"
and he was all modest and stuff just saying, "yeah thanks man, I gotta head backstage enjoy the show"
and I did

I love Mastodon, their old album, Remission is just as good as Leviathan. I hear they're an awesome live act too. It's so great to hear such original and fresh-sounding music coming from such a young band.

They aren't really young in all honesty. But anyway I'm a bit of a fanboy when it comes to Mastodon. I've met all of the band members, but more importantly seen them play live 7 times. Three times after Leviathan (2 Mean Fiddler Shows and at Download) and four times before that in their home of Atlanta as I have relatives up there who took me to see bands from their local scene.
Mastodon as a thread actually pops up a large amount around here but meh...
Great band anyway with a good live show. Plus Brann Dailor brings some awesome drumming to their music.

That's the best song on the album, if only for that moment. Proper road protocol is to slow down your vehicle when the little fill comes in, then step on the accelerator once the song goes into overdrive. Someday I'm going to be pulled over for speeding while listening to Megalodon, but I will have no regrets \m/
So yeah, Leviathan is a great album. Mastodon is one of the few metal bands who can evoke imagery with their musicianship (beyond just aggression or anger). I think it comes from Dailor's drumming; his rolling fills and cymbal crashes really evoke a swashbuckling imagery to go along with the lyrics. The vocals are mixed kinda low, instead the guitars are the loudest. As it should be in thrash metal

And yeah, as quite afew have said, Hearts Alive is probably my fave song.

"Mother Puncher", "Sea Beast", "Where Strides The Behemoth?", "Mastodon", "Crusher Destroyer", "Aqua Dementia" etc.

Listen to the song TrainWreck. The part at 0:40 is soo awsome. when that guitar comes in with that awsome riff. I could hear that over and over again. And then right at 0:59 is feraking awsome as well. That lick will stick in my head all day sometimes.

That is probably one of the best guitar riffs EVER. That solo is amazing and actually pretty easy to play. :thumb:

Hehe, I wouldnt say ever, but it is freaking awsome. The last 4 songs on that cd are amazing.
/is bored, breaks down
The beggining of trampled Under Hoof is awsome. It just grabs you right away. And then at 0:23 it goes super brutal and almost makes me laugh. So awsome.
Trilobite is awsome too. It has that super awsome slow riff that builds and then at 0:43 it explodes and is so freaking awsome.
Mother Puncher comes in with that freaking huge funky riff, and gos on with it for a while. The whole song shifts and moves and is soo sick.
Elephant man is an awsome instrumental song. It starts with the sound of wind and this winding lick type thing, and then at 0:43 it comes into that crazy cord progression. The solo at 2:28 is so freakin awsome. So is the solo at 3:40. Then at the end its silent for a minute. And then the best secret song comes in:just loud white noise for a little while.
Boy that was deep :p Dont get me started on Hearts Alive...

I don't think that they are guest vocals. You do know that Brent Hinds does vocals too, right?
YDload

Yeah but I just figured he did the "whiny" ones in Seabeast and Naked Burn, because those are the ones that seem to make the least sense in terms of the rest of their songs. I just know Troy does the vocals on Blood and Thunder, as well as Megalodon, so that's the "default" voice I use for listening for guest singers.
Hey does anyone have Call of the Mastodon? If so, how is it?

Brent Hinds has the bigger beard/hair. He grew up playing and learning tons of blues, until he was doing drugs and heard Neurosis, wich turned him onto metal. He used to have this hot peacre of *** http://dirtjunior.com/mastodon29.jpg Then someone stole it. Only two were made. Now he has a white V.
The other guitarist Bill Kellhiller, has the hottest les Paul I've ever seen, a silverburst. Not to sure about him, him and Brann played in a technical metal band togehter before.
So Bill is the Metal, and Brent is the blues influence. I think Bill uses Laney now, but I'm pretty sure both of them play through old Marshalls.

"I hope we can start a prog revolution, because the timing's right," he said. "You've got a Tool record that's coming out, an Isis record that's coming out, a Mars Volta record that's coming out, a Mastodon record that's coming out, and I hope that converges into something really awesome for music where it doesn't become pop, but there's a little more sharing of the pie. It would be cool if you had kids in their bedrooms not trying to learn Linkin Park songs, but they're trying to learn Mastodon songs. It's cool music that's honest and from the heart, and it's technically challenging."

I highly doubt it will happen. I wouldn't even really classify Mastodon as progressive, but lets not get into that :thumb:

I hate genre fights so much. Everyone thinks their opinion is best represented.
But Mastodon is kind of progressive.
So anyone get ahold of the Orion cover yet?

I honestly can't wait for Blood Mountain.
Whatever they say I doubt their music will be exactly mainstream, but being signed to WB with bands like Sevenfold and so on will mean that they'll be pushed a lot more.

Well, they had The Dillinger Escape Plan there last year, maybe they're dumb enough to let an interesting band through again!

For $15? I thought it was worth it. Theres about an hour long interveiw of the band talking about how they were formed, what they've done, etc etc. Some funny stuff. Then theres 2-3 hours of live footage. The only problem I have with it iss the sound qaulity though. But I would say definatley get it :thumb:

10 being the best, I would say six or seven are 8, six or seven are 5-6, and the rest are 4.

Haha, I got confused writing that.
I would say that 7/10 is right. I think the interweiw was better than watchin the vids though.

Or go to there myspace (http://www.myspace.com/mastodon) page and preview some of thee music... Whatever suits you...

In that MTV interview with Brann Dailor, he just said that "It's better in many ways". I trust him. I hope they keep it more like Leviathan and less like Remission.

I would buy Leviathan first, see if it's cool, then buy Remission. imo, Lifesblood isn't worth the money. That EP sucks. I love Call of The Mastodon, the one with all the demo sh!t. that was good...

Heres my story of how I got into Mastodon.
I was at borders, looking at music. I went to one of the listening stations that had Leviathan on it. I thought, oh, cool artwork. So I put it on and heard the intro to Blood and Thunder. From that moment on I loved Mastodon.
I remember going home that day and sitting in my room listening to "White...Whale...Holy, Grail!" all afternoon. Good times.

I saw the video for Iron Tusk, and I'm like "Thats not even music." Then the next week, the show had the exact same videos, and it really caught on to me. I later saw the video for March Of The Fire Ants. I knew from their on, this band is amazing.

I got into mastodon after hearing someone on here talk about them during last summer (cause they saw them at ozzfest or summin).
Later that week I was downtown at a record shop and I blindly picked up leviathan because I remembered the name mastodon. And they got me listening to alot of other bands that I otherwise wouldn't have picked up.

Brann Dailor is one of my favourite drummers. He's serious love for off-beat and fills throughout songs make my legs turn to jelly. And he also has a very small kit compared to other metal acts. He needs space for he's hands moving all over the place!
I got the drummer in my band to listen to Mastodon. He hates the drummer, he says that he does too much and takes away from the other instruments. I disagree, but thats what he thinks.
