My Chemical Romance - "Astro Zombies" [Original Artist: Misfits]
Emanuel - "Search & Destroy" [Original Artist: The Stooges]

The Bled - "House of Suffering" [Original Artist: Bad Brains]
Hot Snakes - "Time to Escape" [Original Artist: Government Issue]
Fall Out Boy - "Start Today" [Original Artist: Gorilla Biscuits]
Alkaline Trio - "Wash Away (Beneath the Shadows)" [Original Artist: T.S.O.L.]
Thursday - "Ever Fallen In Love" [Original Artist: Buzzcocks]
From Autumn To Ashes - "Let's Have A War" [Original Artist: Fear]
Rise Against - "Fix Me" [Original Artist: Black Flag]
This is part of the soundtrack to the new Tony Hawk game and I am ready to get pissed. They took some of the best songs from some of the best bands of 80's hardcore punk and are having the worst of the worst of todays pop-punk cover them (with the exceptions of sucking being Thursday, Rise Against, and like one or two others which are great bands but shouldnt be doing this any way.) The band that really got me pissed was My Chemical Romance covering the Misfits and Fall Out Boy covering Gorilla Biscuits, and to top it off that is my favorite Misfits song and My Chemical Romance is my most hated band. If anyone else is pissed feel free to vent in here. I wish we could do as Fear say and "Lets Have A War" with those slimebag bands.

SubtleDagger
11-02-2005, 09:32 AM
They're really, really simplistic. I can play most of their guitar parts with my eyes closed. Hell, I could make some new Thursday songs up with my eyes closed probably.
It doesn't bother me for some reason. But still, they're not the best candidates for covering influential hardcore songs.
RetiredAt21
11-02-2005, 09:34 AM
I know I got really intrigued and wanted to hear them after reading a guitar magazine that was ranting and raving about how good the guitarists are. Then I heard it and I was like "wtf?" And the singer's voice really got on my nerves. They have some pretty good lyrics though.

The thought of TBS covering those Descendents songs is just unimaginable. I can't even grasp what that would sound like.
I'm not saying it's bad, just that I'm unable to comprehend the result in any way.

Saves the Day used to be on a bunch of hardcore covers. In The Ups and Downs, Chris says that onetime they had a phonenumber of theirs in one of them, and they got like hate mail because of it, because they really weren't hardcore. Sort of funny.

My thoughts:
Senses Fail - "Institutionalized" [Original Artist: Suicidal Tendencies] Bad vocals ruined the song.
My Chemical Romance - "Astro Zombies" [Original Artist: Misfits] ewwww
Saves the Day - "Sonic Reducer" [Original Artist: Dead Boys] I liked it, but it gets owned by the original.
Thrice - "Seeing Red" and "Screaming at a Wall" [Original Artist: Minor Threat] Boringgggg.
The Bled - "House of Suffering" [Original Artist: Bad Brains] Pretty much just the same.
Fall Out Boy - "Start Today" [Original Artist: Gorilla Biscuits] Horrible. Even Fall Out Boy fans from school agree with me. They ruined a classic.
Thursday - "Ever Fallen In Love" [Original Artist: Buzzcocks] I liked it better than the original.
Rise Against - "Fix Me" [Original Artist: Black Flag]
Pretty good.

Out of all of those bands, Thursday/Taking Back Sunday/Saves the Day are good.
Like said before, i cant even think of what the TBS cover would sound like. I ust cant picture it in my head, it seems like an odd band to cover a descendents song. Ill need to check out the game and listen to them all, its an interesting idea (to have covers), but probably poorly executed.
