View Full Version : 80's Hardcore Punk has a hold on me

I was just listening to one of my favourite albums, Black Flag's Damaged and was wondering are there any hardcore punk bands now that are worth listening to? I've been kinda stuck with 80's hardcore so long that I've become isolated.

Suicidal Tendencies
Circle Jerks
Bad Brains
No For An Answer
Warzone
Gorilla Biscuits
Youth Of Today
Burn
Inside Out

A couple of those are borderline 80s/90s. All worth checking out though.

I can't think of any bands that sound like the 80s but aren't from the 80s. I'm sure once Adam comes on he'll list a bunch.

Was what I said confusing? He wants bands who play 80s-style hardcore punk that are from the present. Adam (Excursions) knows a lot of 80s hardcore punk and probably knows a lot of bands.

I've been jamming them almost non-stop as of late.

Other bands to check out:
Holier Than Thou? - Thrash, but highly influenced by 80's hc. Now borken up, but when they were around they released like 4 albums I believe. They also did mean covers of Motorhead and Stalag 13.

A.N.S. (http://www.myspace.com/ans) - DESTROY THE NEW SCHOOL! These dudes rip it up, straight out of Dallas. If yer a fan of old school skate rock, check these dudes out.

Vitality! (http://www.myspace.com/vitalityhxc) - Old school youth crew hardcore out of Houston, TX. Really awesome band, be sure to check em out.

Caustic Christ (http://myspace.com/causticchrist) - From the ashes of Aus-Rotten came several bands, but the one to bring back the sound from days gone is Caustic Christ. They have a crusty sound to 'em, but ye can hear all the emphasis on 80's styled hc. If ye like Black Flag or Posion Idea, I'm sure you'll love 'em.

Regulations - Awesome swedish hc band. Has members of ExTxAx (Epileptic Terror Attack). Real old school sound, I'm sure you'll love it. Right now they're on a US tour. They're playing in Austin, TX tonight.

Here's an mp3: http://havocrex.com/mp3/Regulations_Police_Sirens.mp3
...and ye can check out the tour dates here: http://www.havocrex.com

If I think of more bands, I'll post 'em up.

They were made from members of Tear it Up, who Adam raves about but I've never heard, but I'm guessing they have an old school sound too.

You'd probably like Hook & the Daggers. They've got a good 80's hardcore sound.

http://www.myspace.com/hookandthedaggers

This is taken from their website, this is a good summary of Tim.

Hook and the Daggers started in 2003 as a way to get free drinks. We are three friends who have ****ty equipment that's falling apart (partially our fault) very little interest in the current "state" of music or the scene. We hate scene politics, posers, and mother****ers holding their *** too tight to dance. We have been called old school punk, hardcore punk , melodic punk. Tags we feel are totally meaningless. We call ourselves Ballroom Thrash. We are not a "political" band but have a lot of socio-politcal songs. we dont take ourselves too seriously, unless you're talking about bring the ruckus, we do take that very seriously. Our shows vary from totally out of control drunken catharsis, to somewhat in control drunken catharsis. I (tim) dont play this kind of music because it's profitable or cool. i do it so that i can have an excuse to yell "**** this ****" while hanging out with my friends. The people who come to our shows and sing along with our songs are just an amazing
added bonus to something that i find completely gratifiying. so thank you.

It's a personal choice that's open to interpretation as long as it falls under the basic range of what is was meant to be. That being a way of life where ye refrain from participating in activities that may, in turn, turn your focus on that activity. Thus some people are still premiscuous if they feel they are capable of thinking straight during everyday situations.

Anyways, back to the subject at hand.
