View Full Version : Harpy Cymbals
I recently decided I want to make my drum kit as metal as possible (Saw blades, spikes, cool black drums heads)
I was planning on getting Harpy C series (Black) Cymbals.
Has anyone ever played them or have any output on the sound or quality...
any comments welcome
thx:)

If you wanna be metallic, you should probably go with Meinl.

i think he means metal looking by the look of things....
I don't know anything about those, but Stagg have a 'Black Metal' range.
But I don't understand. Just about no metal drummers have black cymbals or saw blades on their kits, so why do you need to?

EDIT: Check out cymbalholic.com and wikipedia for info on Harpy Cymbals.
I want a crazy metal look for live shows... just wondering if they sound anygood.
I want to look crazy cuz the musis is crazy... and black cymbals would be rad.

I really wouldnt recommend buying any cymbals just for their looks, after all they are mainly for thier sound. But if you can find some black cymbals that sound good to you then go for it.

Paiste do (or did) custom spraying of cymbals so they can do black ones
^Yup.
Any Paiste cymbal is available in black for a 30% surcharge. Because the cymbal is made in Switzerland, the lead time is 4 to 6 months. You can make custom orders through your local drum shop.
But I stand by my point that the best metal drummers don't have a kit full of gimmicks and cliches, neither should you.

i have a harpy series C 8" splash
in my opinion its pretty terrible would not reccomend
and the looks DO NOT make the drummer
Go the Paiste custom route or dont bother, there's no point in buying cymbals for the way they look. Why not just start with something easy like all black heads.

dude, if you wanna look rad, the only way to do so is NOT to look rad!! use regular cymbals and play well, that's what makes you rad, not spikes and saw blades!

harpy cymbals sound like A or K customs.... some say Paiste Signatures, but i think they resemble HHX's. just what ive heard.

If you order cymbals through Paiste, they will do any cymbal in black for 30% added.
Allow 3 months or so =/

harpy cymbals are better used as saucers and salad bowls than cymbals.
they're dishwasher safe, too.

You can get black paiste cymbals, that'd be your best bet.
