Has anyone ever bought a Keller snare shell and assembled your own snare?
If so, what size, #ply, etc.
What advice can you give?
Most importantly, how did the final product sound?
I am looking in ebay at different Keller shells and considering putting t/g a snare. I'm basically looking for any and all suggestions.
Thanks

The above link is one I finished a few weeks ago. Be patient with the finish work and precise in your measurements for the drilling. I'm thrilled with the sound: a nice high pitch crack which is just what I wanted out of an aux snare.
Try http://www.conawaydrums.com or http://www.drummaker.com for shells. I think you'll do better price-wise. Good luck!

i ordered a 14 x 5.5 keller maple shell w/ snare beds and edges about a year ago, i paid around $35 (can't remember exactly) on ebay. Be patient, that's the best advice i can give, and use some masking tape or something to mark measurements, don't write directly on the shell with sharpies (like i did).
drummaker.com is an amazing website, and the forums over there can tell you anything you need to know
