Thanks to your comments on a previous post i decided to buy a couple o mini timbales! you know? the tama mini tymps (8" 10") the heads they have on them are pretty dam thin! they just the stock heads and ill probably go through them inweeks! ha ha!

could anybody give me an idea of the kinda heads that would a nice timbale sound, i want them to blend nicely with normal toms sounds, but obviously being a different type of drum they have a little extra quality in the fact they are unique to the rest of the kit!

but i will be using them (the 10" atleast) in almost a similar fashoin to my toms! thats why i want the nice blend..i know its possible so please i dont want any comments slating my requirements cos that'll just take up space!

i was thinkin coated or ebony ambassadors/emps?

cheers

Timbale heads are usually one ply clear or smooth white. I don't think coated heads are going to give you the "bite" of a typical timbale.

Ive just gt back from band practice!! and wow!
these little timps are pretty dam cool i love them, a nice addition and money well spent, cant find anywhere to put my little 8" one though (slight lack of room) but to have my 10" next to my small rack tom its very interesting but very cool too!

just thought id let ya know! cos it was help from you guysthat made me get the timps over piccolo drums! thank you!

anyways back to the thread...

has anybody experimented with heads and has a comparison to give me??

maybe it's a littel stupid question, but what are timbales? and how do they sound?
I saw the videoclip of Hypnotize ( the new song of system of a down) and he has 2 litte "toms" next to his other toms, are they timbales?

I doubt Doylman would be using timbales. They are a latin percussion instrument. Metal Shelled, very nice high sound. Good enough ring.
