Well the question is this:
How hard is it micing a grand piano (i think thats what its called in english... the big huge piano thing - called a "wing" in german)
we would use 2 akg c414 mics.
Just - do you think the avarege technitian can make the thing actually sound any good?
does anyone here have any experience with miking pianos?
any tips would be great, since we are not sure if we will be using it...
thanx

You would be better off checking out an extensive website or article on this, because there are a lot of ways to do it, and you have possibly the absolute best mics for the job, so you could get fine results indeed.

Be sure that you're in a very open area.
Grand pianos are named "concert pianos" for a reason. They're built to be heard in large arenas. Because of this, they sound bad with low roofs and small rooms.

in my experience, akg c414s sound good on just about everything except large pianos. They're just warm and thick in all the wrong places and thin where piano needs it. So my advice would be to try and find something else (something good, if it needs to said)

well, if you have the dough, I like the Neumann KMi86. A pair inside the body of the piano, maybe another pair in the room. If you've got the AKGs, you could use them as ambient/room mics and probably get some good mileage out of them. DPA makes a good one too, I can't remember what we used exactly, but I belive it was the 4011 (the hypercardiod small diaphragm condensers). We also once dropped a DPA omnia underneath the piano for sub-harmonics and footpedal sounds with pretty good results.
