I am currently looking for a musician (I don't care what format you use, from accursed midi files to mp3's) to create music for a video game that I am currently designing. If you are interested, please, let me know, as I will check this board frequently.

Barring the last one before this post, I need examples of your work in order to consider you. As for you, I hope your hotmail isn't triggered to delete unfamiliar mail messages. I run into that problem frequently with hotmail users.

As to money, it would require to make a leap of faith, because IF we sell this game and you are still a member, then you will be paid. But that will be a while.

Also, if you post links, don't forget to begin it with "http://" that can be quite the nusiance.

Damn, I keep missing questions. The game is an RPG. Its somewhat traditional.

Labyrinth Designs

Right now, anything you've already done will be fine. I can deduce from that whether or not you would work.

I actually might be interested in this project, but I'm really busy at the moment with college and other projects as well. If you can give me any sort of specifics on the game itself, I can toss some ideas around in my head and see how they sound.

This isn't a definite yes or no, but I would like a bit more information. Especially on how in-depth you're thinking of going with the music. Do you want World themes? Battle themes? Character themes? Songs that pertain to plot points? Cut scenes? Do you want instrumentals mostly, and in what style? Classical? Neo-Classical? Whatever? These are things that would be nice to know before starting a project.

Question 1: Check http://s14.invisionfree.com/Labyrinth_Designs then go to Music and Sound.

The rest: Yes

If not you, then perhaps you could recommend somebody to ask. The only people I find here are usually rockers, and while I have nothing against that, nay I can use that, I do need something more (as you mentioned, classical, neo-classical). As for which parts do I need? I need ALL of them. Absolutly everything.

Excellent. Thanks for the link, that'll be enourmously helpful. :)

I'll try and think of some ideas and get back to you on this. I would enjoy working on something like this, and I'll get back to you when I have a definite answer.

Anything helps, but don't worry, if there's one thing I have, it's time. I just need the vote of confidence, that's all for now.

advice to musicians: unless you have a contract, assume 'i'll pay you later' means you're doing this job for free. if you want to work for free, go for it, game music is a great challenge and *may* give you some exposure. no disrespect to LD, but i've seen 'pay you later' play out badly several times if no contract is involved.

advice to LD: check out the publisher i used to be with - twistedtracks.com - you'll find a good collection of stock music for the moods you're looking for. if you want something more custom, we can work out something through ACM Records (they're currently shopping my music to Fox and handle my licensing).

Rustcycle's assumtion is correct. There is NOTHING in the works for payment. There won't be anything at all until the design is finished and programming comes into play (just for a point of reference, that will be a WHILE).

I did say this would be a leap of faith. I need people willing to take the plunge. Games could go up in flames in no time flat, on the other hand, they can score big. I'm more looking for people to assist with the design, and the musical design will play a very large role. Don't expect this game to come out anytime soon. The design, however, is in the works immediately. There will be contracts involved when we get to that point, but I simply can't guarantee anything right now.

To rustcycle, thank you for the links, but at the present I have no way to listen to them. I seem to have... misplaced my wallet, and these people (I'm at a college) want my ID to get headphones. I will check them as SOON as I can though.

Um... I listened to rustcycle's stuff, and it scares me quite a bit, like if I asked you to join I'd be biting of WAY more than I could chew.

To hell with it, I'm already choking on the stuff I got, why not cram more in? By the way, whose stuff are you posting, it almost sounds like your supporting somebody else. If you think they would be willing to work with me, bring them on! I could always use more help in the design process of this game.

rustcycle

interesting - not sure why you would think those tracks aren't mine...

the tracks i posted are my work. i play guitar / violin / viola and sequence the other instruments. those tracks are licensed through my publisher, ACM Records. ie they handle all my contracts.

*some* of the tracks at twistedtracks.com are mine (only an album worth of perhaps 100 albums in the library), i don't believe they'll be listed by artist.

It was probably the name that was posted before them, and then you used a different name to sign your post. That must be your contact.

Still would like to know if you would like to be involved in the design aspect of the game, of course under the assumption that there won't be any money involved, but there is a possibility. If not to be directly involved, then to advise. I am sure you have information that would be most valuable to us.

If you would be willing to help us, the link is http://s14.invisionfree.com/Labyrinth_Designs
Just sign up to be a member, and we'll take it from there. I'm almost ready to post the first bit of the story to start working on the design, so throw anything you want our way, and it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Eve is the contact at ACM Recs.

I'm pretty booked right now, I have too many thing going on with consulting / research / software design to work for free. I'll certainly pass any useful info / conference papers your way WRT design aspects though. Shoot me an email from the account you'd like me to correspond to. Thanks.

Best luck!

I've actually been working on those two themes from the website... for the March theme, I just had a couple themes pop into my head and ran with it... unfortunately, I don't have a terrible amount of access to actual recording equipment or actual string quartets and ensembles, so I'm forced to write using MIDI programs. I hope to have a finished enough product soon to let you sample what I've been working on.

Labyrinth Designs
11-10-2005, 07:38 PM
to Dazed: I will sure as hell get on that immediately. I want MUSICIANS, damnit! I have a few artists, but only one musician, and he's a bit busy.

to Spectrum: A midi will be fine, it will give me the basic idea, anyway. Actually, anything you can provide us with would be fine.

Again, thank you both.

hey. if you need music for creepy/horror atmospheres then i'd be interested in helping...

i'm being serious, not wasting time etc... i have full recording software on my laptop. if you are interested i can record some atmospheric stuff and e-mail you the mp3... let me know.

i just read your music descriptions...
i'm sure i could do one for Exbelua - The Burning of Narill...

Darkness
Sadness, Dread, Fear
Death
Fire

i can creat that atmosphere, just can't do a strings section...
could maybe use really sharp guitar instead of strings...

where you want me to post it when i'm done? (should be done for the weekend)

If you could work on everything else, I could probably arrange a string section. Co-op projects, woo!

DeusExMachina and I are actually thinking of doing co-op work for the project.

I'm home from college now, but when I get back Sunday, I'll send you the work-in-progress MIDIs and you can give me feedback - what you think, what changes, what you'd like to hear - and then I can get really into the nit-picky writing.

Labyrinth Designs
11-12-2005, 06:51 PM
Rage - Absolutely. You do exactly that. You get me that mp3 asap and I will get you in the group very quickly. I hope as well that you are able to step AWAY from new age (rock, pop rock, metal) and go into more traditional works as well (not to say new age is bad, on the contrary, the group will be using it).

Labyrinth Designs
11-12-2005, 06:55 PM
Spectrum/Deus Ex - One or both of you get me a sample of your work, and I'll get you into the group. I'd actually like all project related discussion to be centralized at the Labyrinth Designs site. Going back and forth between 3 different sites gets very annoying after a while. And its becoming increasingly difficult to keep it all straight (which probably is better than keeping it gay).

Edit: Might as well post the link.

Nickernell - Yes. But no punk. I want a musician who is a jack of all trades (or a group who can do the same). Classic, Neo-Classic, some rock (for battle themes), some piano/guitar/wind/brass solos (for dramatic pieces).

I don't know if you are searching for a lot of musicians. I would definitely help for free but I am not going to compose the music for the whole game. I would like to do some songs. I am very versatile and can work with what you ask me to compose. I am going to send you some samples of what I did. Send me a mail at: oblivion_forever@hotmail.com.

I have e-mailed you some of the MIDI work I was doing using a YSI link. Deus will be tooling around with them, but I'm sending you the products I had.

In the second file, I'm planning on having a moment at some point at which the tempo suddenly changes and the music moves violently, so as to reflect the brutal murder scene from the memory. Expect a revised version later.

EDIT: The violent part may indeed proceed the section I've sent you, which would go better as a character looking out at a burning village that used to be his home, and the end is a nice little outro bit for the end of a memory. It'll be earlier in then I had anticipated. Still expect a revised version later.

Eion5 - Very good work. I downloaded "drift" and "snow's falling" both are very good pieces. I think you would be an asset to the team.

LivingDeadBoy - I was very impressed with your work. Time and Tired Lovers was not at all what I was expecting. There is some sick stuff in there. I think those very effects would go very well in a scene where the main character is having a violent nightmare (makes a mental note to update the descriptions).
