Six Foot Revolver

Yup, yet another thread stolen from the punx with full credit going to Anti-Prefix only I edited it :). THIS IS NOT A MAJOR COMPETITION WITH POLLS AND STUFF and is in no way trying to take away any fire from Med's 100 best songs. I am merely going to make a list using the number of nominations each song gets. I think this thread would be really useful for the nubbies to find new music and just generally fit in more after hearing some of R&M's definitive songs. Keep in mind that definitive and favourite have two completely different meanings. I will keep the nominations amount at the same as Anti-Prefix and say 5 nominations each please.

unComfortably Numb's definition of definitive (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10247264&postcount=83)

My nominations:
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Muse - Hysteria
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name

Haha, well, I don't care that much for Progressive metal outside Dream Theater, so referring to Prog as "a genre I hold dear" would be false.

Seriously?

I would give you a hell of alot better maiden songs to put in than that!

It's an instrumental aswell, surely you would want to give Bruce's voice an airing in here?
or Paul, as this time period is?

Ghengis Khan is probably one of my favorite Maiden songs, the riffage is so great in it.

3. Opeth - The Moor
4. Incubus - Sick Sad Little World
5. Eric Clapton [Unplugged] - Layla (The electric version, from Derick & The Dominoes (sp?), is good, but I am absolutely in love with his accoustic version at the moment!)

What I said (before the edit) was mean and unnesessary so I apologise. I am ill and it has put me in a bad mood =[. The reason I have gone over with the songs is because this is not going to be polls and this is the actual competition. Why I am going over the limit is because a song could be in the over 100 and then get tons more votes but it wouldn't make it into the top 100 because the votes wouldn't count.

That's basically what I was thinking, so I tried to pick songs that were representative of both bands and genres, not necessarily my favorite...although Echoes IS my favorite and I think it's still definitive.
It was tough picking five though. There were so many artists (Bob Dylan especially) that I didn't get in there even though he's my idol :(

Erm. I'll devide Rock and Metal into Two, i'd die otherwords.

Rock:

The Who - My Generation
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
Cream - Sunshine Of Your Love

Generic, well known, but If someone asked me, "What is rock?" I'd show 'em this list.

Metal:

Death - Flattening Of Emotions
Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark
Kalmah - Hades
Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony
Tool - Laterlus

Hm, less definitave than my Rock list, but its an introduction. This was hard =/
