A's or A Customs are a good line for most popular electric styles. While K's may offer darker sounds, they are often buried easily in louder electric playing situations.

Yes that's good, recommending Zildjians when he specifically said he preferred Sabians.... :p

Anyways, you probably want something bright, so AA's medium/thin, 16" or similar

If you want dark with a long sustain then go for HH/HHX's

Whatever sounds best to you.
Don't listen to others, listen to the cymbals.

Just grab $ 1500, go to a music store and buy all the great sounding cymbals you need/can afford.

I find the AAX line mixes very well with the loud/elecrtic music styles, can also work well in say jazz situations as well

Well if he wants to stupidly limit himself for unknown reasons.. what does he like the Logo?

Cause he's askin about cymbal sounds, so it's not like he prefers Sabians.. or he'd be using them!

Well he's already established a style, which would imply that he's played before. And even if he hasn't, perhaps he's only tried a small selection of both brands.

Of course, I could be way off.

Why would somebody limit there choices... if they've already mad a choice to play particular cymbals?

It really doesn't make anysense. Brand whoring is so absurd. Either you know what you want, or you don't.

But come on.. high end cymbals are high end cymbals. Take off the logos and it doesn't matter who made them. Only what they sound like.

I wouldn't call him a brand whore just because he prefers Sabian. If he likes the sound better, he should go with that.

See, to me, that's not really brand whoring. Brand whoring to me would mean that a person buys a specific brand because it's that brand, not because he/she prefers that brand over another sound-wise.

Of course.. but look at the question.

What cymbals are good for pop/alterantive/rock?

That's the most popular forms of music. If you have cymbals now, it means you are most likely playing those kinds of styles.. i supose it's possible not.

But to ask people to recomend cymbals based on what those people like just totally throws out the whole point of why HE likes them.

Also, I'd bet a lot of money in a blind test most people couldn't tell the brand from the sound.

Medium-thin/Mediums

I suggest A's or AA's for this type of thing, classic tones that cut great in amped settings.
