View Full Version : So I just tuned my bass ADGC..
That C sounds so sexy :naughty:
Umm... To give this thread a point what are some good songs to play in ADGC?
Perferably no slaping.. tapping's good though :thumb:

I'm sure Victor Wootens Norwegian Wood is tuned that way.

Yeah, Norwegian Wood is. There is a whole crapload of stuff that will sound good on a tenor, even if it's not written for it. Love Thang by Stuart Hamm sounds pure sex on a tenor.

Some strange ones to try (Metallica):
My Friend of Misery
Anaesthesia (Pulling Teeth)
They sound very different on the higher notes, and in a good way I think.

Alot of Wootens stuff is tenor. Try transposing music for the tenor. You'll find that many songs may sound "better" this way.

Try to screw around with some harmonics...I imagine they would sound sex-tacular. :naughty:

Did you tune up or down?
I saw it first and I was like, oh, another Korn fan. Go away.
And then everyone else was saying you were tuned to tenor, and I was like, oh yeah, you can tune up to that too ( I don't tune up, I prefer a straight neck and a truss rod that is in one piece, but each to his own), and I was just curious.
So, carry on.

Da*n right they do.
TO be onhest, I can't think of anything done by anyone minus Victor Wooten who plays in ADGC.

Except that there is a double thumbing section at the beginning of Norwegian Wood.
Anyway, I agree, I love the C string, but the low B is great too. This is why I have a 6.

123. Although, I use the B string mostly to reposition tricky fingerings on the E string. But, I know it would get more use if I were in a band.

I've been considering maybe getting a fiver with a high C (never had much use for the B string), or a tenor. I love Norweigan Wood.

One tuning I've grown to appreciate is with the C tuned to Bb, which is how Wooten tunes for More Love. Since I've been learning to play that a little I mess around with it like that sometimes. And even though it's just a very small change, it's still cool.
I've never really been one to experiment with different tunings... at least not yet.
I'm getting a five string and tuning it EADGC. If you want more songs to play in this tuning, check out Bass Extremes, I believe Victor uses his tenor bass for most (if not all) of those songs. Or just play a song that's normally in standard on it, just for a different sound.

Hmm... I always played that with the C tuned in C.

Yeah, I have that. He plays tenor so he can hit the same high C as Bailey, among other reasons.

I think it's mainly because he plays most of the melodies and he needs the high range for his bass to stand out. Since Bailey has a low E and B, two low basses would sound pretty muddy.

123...I think its the first time I used the ol' 123'er.
