On November the 11th my school is having a coffee house. I'm obligated to perform there since I am a member of my school Tri-M society. I'm thinking about starting playing:
Moonlight Sonata
Country Music (supposed to be a crowd pleaser)
Classical Thump
And my slap song.
I don't know if I'll have a recording but I'll update this thread with how it goes.
Have any opinions on my set or any advice? Its my first time playing alone in front of a group of people.

Sounds like a killer list man...
You better get recordings...

It's not up to me if I get a recording. It depends on my school...maybe I'll have pictures.

As it's a coffe house, you should do Coffe shop
Sorry, couldn't help myself

I've seen him play Classical Thump! It's true.
Keep cool and just let the set flow, and DEFINITELY let them know that the last one is your original.

Relax, if you can do them by yourself, then theres no reason why you shouldn't be able to play them in front of other people.

good luck.. I dunno if i would have played classical thump for this sort of event but I guess it's just as crowd-pleasing as any shred guitar ;)

If you can actually play that set list, you may consider charging for entrance!

Where is this cofee house anyway(the school)? What other kind of bands are playing, and are you just doing this solo? Thats pretty gnar if you are (/rhyme)

Ya that's a hard set, but if you can do it that's great. Moonlight Sonata works well for this situation. I used it last year at the same kind of thing I had to do for school. Most people didn't know what it was, but they were impressed none the less.

Thanks guys, I'm working on it right now, just playing it over and over to get down my "faux transitions." Maybe I"ll post up a recording of my special slap song since no one has heard it (its VERY VERY similar to Me and my Bass Guitar, actually its probably close enough to be a rip-off)
Its only like a minute of Moonlight Sonata and my special version of country music (I have a part with double hammers on the high part every other one and a crazy swing version of it) And its only like 45 seconds of classical thump with one part slowed down for melodic affect/drama.
I'll work on a recording.

Recording, sorry the high part sounds bad, its just my mic sucks and so does my amp.

The ending is improv'ed so forgive some sloppieness. I'll probably take it slower and do more of a groove with it.

It wasn't flattery its true, I can't slap at all. I can only do those the slaps like in "Me and my Bass Guitar" and I have a hard time varying up the rythem on it.
Btw for anyone who cares the main part is a simple 12 bar blues (I I I I IV IV I I V IV I I all dominate chords, root-6th-b7th)

I can't slap, like literally, I'm broken now. I just lost the ability.
And it sounded like 12 bar blues, I just didn't want to feel like an idiot it if I was wrong.

Merci, signor.
Yah, its a generic 12 bar blues because I couldn't think of a better, easier turn-around. Maybe I'll just mess around with it later and do something insane like VI II III I, even though I have a feeling it just won't sound right.
I think I might tack on blackbird at the end to appease all the old people...

Thanks, I like compliments :P. Now for the guy who always comes in and tell me that my rythem is off and since that is a fundamental I suck. (its happened before.)

You know, that filename you decided to use it's really dangerous .
I'm on MSN, messing around, and when I open the mp3, it opens on Windows Media Player. I have that plug-in about letting others see what you are hearing, and what is my surprise that my message has now changed to "Iliketowank".
Nice recording, is that supposed to be your me & my bass guitar? It's not that similar, so don't worry. And I really hope the mic is really affecting the tone you use for your bass, because I didn't liked it at all (the tone) =\.

I don't know if its affecting, it might be my shitty practice amp. I have a fender P that is super, like you have to play it to understand what I mean. People who have played it from Berklee can testify.
The slap is basically the same three intervals as Me and My Bass Guitar and same slap pattern pretty much.
Sorry about the file name :(

It's the first Fender product I loved.
