I've been learning Moonlight Sonata tonight on bass, and the Stu Hamm tabs at some point have me tapping 0 on E... how does that work.. do I just do a random pull off to accomplish that? Sounds kinda messy that way...

It's probably wrong, if your looking at the tab I think you are you should play that open E at the 12th fret, not open.

Okay then screw that tab... I think I'll go off this powertabs version instead

Tab may be wrong, otherwise just play the note with your thumb or index. Tap it at the 12th fret if it sounds right, it may sound off cause it's an octave higher.

i didn't know you could do an open E, or open top-string. i know to do an open note on any other string is easy, just go to the 5th fret of the string above it .........................

^^ i was gonna say "buy a 5 string and tap the 5th fret on the B" but you stole my point...

Like say, when I'm playing something like kings of Sleep or Always With me Always with you (tapped) that requires an open note, I tend to sneak it in by thumbing it.

....or the 7th of the A

....or the 7th of the A

As in the Kings of Sleep intro, one of the variations is to tap 7-9 on the A string rather than slap the open E and fret the F#...

What I usually do is pick it with my left hand. It takes a little while to get used to but if you are busy with your right hand it helps a whole lot not having to pick it with your right hand.

that would never sound the same,
open strings sound wayyyy different than 5th fret string below
