What's the point of closing threads? Nobody really cares if it's the wrong forum except for you guys or people that just got here and are still in elitist mode. If it's a bad thread it'll die on it's own.

Yeah Reiner that TBS thread really didn't need to be closed.

If they're open then maybe down the line people will repost. If every Taking Back Sunday thread is closed or moved right away, then the only people who don't get the picture are absolute n00bs, and those will get the picture once they see their thread closed and/or read the rules. To not do that would be like disciplining your first born child but letting the younger two run wild and free like beasts.

Yeah but the only people who make TBS threads are total newbs.
In conclusion: people need to make more good threads.

Yeah, except for this is an internet forum not raising a child. Like I said, none of the regulars care if there's a TBS thread every once in awhile. If we don't wanna post on it we won't. It's not like it's hurting anything.

Also, notice that Braid thread. Genrewise, that thread belongs in alt/indie, but we all know that hardcore kids appreciate and enjoy Braid more than the group of idiots circle jerking to the Arcade Fire over in forum 24. Therefore it stays. Mods are always lenient about stuff that doesn't exactly fit, however, there are certain bands that will always cause problems in certain forums. Even if you, and the "regulars" you are citing as people who don't care about the TBS threads, could care less, Reiner and I care, because the longer those threads pick up posts, the longer we propagate the notion that this thread can be a breeding ground for TBS and Hawthorne Heights fans. We're trying to dispel that, not pursue.
You caring about whether or not these threads are closed have no bearing on you because you don't post in them, and you claim you don't care about the, so why bother complaining about their closing in the first place? I don't understand your motivation.

Then how about we move every Taking Back Sunday, Hawthorne Heights, etc. thread to pop punk? That could be a fun solution. You could spend some time over there answering questions.

Probably just as many people in here like TBS as Braid, if not more.
And I may not post in the threads that I'm talking about, but just because I don't care doesn't mean that other people don't.

TBS get a totally different and more worthy kind of appreciation in here than in pop punk, ditto bands like std/grade.

Exactly. If some of us want to talk about pop-punk bands, we're not going to take it to pop-punk, where there's a million threads on the band filled with a million posters who we have no idea who they are. We're gonna keep it here, where everyone knows each other and shares the same sorts of opinions.

Didn't you just claim that everybody else didn't care about the TBS threads? Oh ya, you did.
Like I said, none of the regulars care if there's a TBS thread every once in awhile. If we don't wanna post on it we won't.
So essentially, none of the regulars care, but then again, the only people posting in these threads are n00bs as Tyler also said earlier.
Yeah but the only people who make TBS threads are total newbs.
So I guess the most reasonable solution is to close or move the threads after providing a succinct explanation of why we don't talk about certain bands in this forum. The n00bs will understand that they're in the wrong place, and regulars don't care anyway, and the mods have a cleaner forum, and everybody is happier. Oh wait, that's what we're doing right now.

I agree. TBS are totally different and more worthy than some of the bands they talk about in pop punk. However, having open TBS threads in here results in hateful commentary from regulars and idiotic spamming from n00bs so it's more of a hassle for everybody in the long run. Same with Hawthorne Heights and same with Atreyu we also banned? I forget right now but you get the idea.

No, you said, verbatim, "none of the regulars care if there's a TBS thread every once in awhile."
I don't understand why you're pushing so hard for this if you don't care. It seems as if you're doing this out of principal instead of practicality. You're not a mod so you don't have to worry about practicality. You're being idealistic, not realistic. Ideally all n00bs would know that TBS definitely aren't emo but have merits that could be discussed reasonably in this forum, but the reality is, none of them get that, and probably never will. So, it makes everything much better to direct them elsewhere.

If you feel that closing threads is stupid, go to the pit and browse through the first 2-3 pages of any thread. I guarantee you'll find enough racism/ignorance/general stupidity to change your opinion on that subject. After doing that if you aren't convinced, go to the site forum and start a petition to get the ability to close threads taken away from mods.
Granted, the average IQ in here is higher than in the pit, but, there still is the need for clean up every once and a while.

It may be absolutely necessary to close threads sometimes, but there's rarely a thread in here where that's the case. I just think that most of the time it's unnecessary. I didn't start this thread thinking I was going to change anything, just letting you know what I think about it.

Okay for you, as a regular, it's unnecessary for a thread to be closed, but you have already said that regulars don't care that much. However, as a mod it's important to me that it's closed. Really important. It cleans up the forum and maintains the integrity as well. Even if you can't give up the feeling itching at your brain that TBS threads should die of natural causes, can you at least respect that it's mine and more recently more of Reiner's job to euthanize them.
