Hello all. Im working on a new CD with a friend of mine, who lives across the country in Seattle now. We send each other our parts digitally, and we talk about them on the phone.

He just does vocals and lyric duties, basically all Ive done was write the songs and recorded all the parts, and he puts stuff to them.

I really like one of my songs called Alice, so I want to be in charge of lyrics and vocal melodies on this one. Since it was fairly straightforward riff wise I went ahead and put it into Guitar Pro last night, and today I tried putting some lyrics to it. Thats all included in the guitar pro file below.

Can you guys check it out and tell me if the vocals go well? They are the 'Shark' track, lyrics are included.

If you are curious about how it actually sounds, the actual recording is at

Pleeease, if you hear anything that would be better for the vocals suggest it and Ill try it, or post up the Guitar Pro file. Possible harmonies too. I really want this song to come out well, its probably my favorite out of the fifteen.

I love how you say that, :D.

Anyway, if you want me honest opinion, I think you should leave it vocal-less.

Caaaaant do it.

Cant leave it vocal less, I dont like instrumental metal at all. : /

The riffing is so straight forward in that song! Theres nothing strange in it. The 27/16 is maybe the only thing weird.

I realise you can't, I just wanted to be honest.

Also, if this is straight forward, I would love to hear your complex stuff.

The GP4 file confused the ****ing hell out of me

But I enjoyed the MP3 a lot, great sounding stuff

Is this stuff for a new 'Burn Washington' album?

I duno about the vocals....its hard to tell from GP4 files

You gonna get that chick to sing again?!

I think the project has been relabled 'Iechine' do to a total lack of any political
content, I feel that the old name was cool but misleading.

That 'chick' is an ex girlfriend that I had reconciled with for a short period of time (Hence a few songs getting recorded with her) but since then we have fallen out completely. So no.

Wait, what was confusing about the file?

Holy **** Tiger. That's immense, TOTALLY what I would listen to.

Loving the Meshuggah influence :P

The melodies fit pretty well, I reckon, but would they be sung or screamed? Can you give me and idea on what vocal style?

ALSO, what gear do you use to record? Because that recording is class.

It just sounded odd without the drums, and went on for a while with no change

I thought Burn Washington was good but yeah, my bro saw the name written down on a CD and looked at me funny

Controversial ;)

Sung...I dont like screamers. (Besides Jens Kidman, that is)

The vocalist is Josh of Xanther...they are getting pretty popular in Washington state, http://www.xanther.com . He's kind of Nine Inch Nails sounding with a bit of feminine touch.

Um...I just used a Pod XT Pro directly into my computer, and Cool Edit Pro. Drums are Drum Kit From Hell Superior.

I use an awful ibanez RG 7 string tuned to an 8. Its the worst guitar, I hate it. I have so much nicer six string instruments, I do all the leads on my Warmoths.

I think Conklin is going to make my 8 string, I have to go to MO to play their guitars in May.

I updated the vocal melodies, by the way, just slight changes.

Yea, I really didnt wanna have to program the drums, plus there wasnt much need to, you know?

Controversy...I dont think the music is controversial in anyway, I just tell everyone to go to Rage Against the Machine for guidance. But yea, the name was
a bit much and I think Iechine is just a good, standard name that doesnt try to be melodramatic.

Tiger's amazing tone comes from a lot of mixing.

...Doesn't it?

Its far from amazing. A/B me with something like Meshuggah's "I" and thats that. : /

And nah, I only EQ the guitars once, because I use the same guitar patch for both channels.

Track left gets my Left EQ and track Right gets my Right EQ. Thats it, honestly.

Well, Im a firm believer that its the vocalist that determines whether a song is awesome or not. In the end, thats what I look to...Im moving across the country in hopes of finding a vocalist thats truly gifted and wants to work with me.

Till then, Im just a busy bee, I dont take what I do that seriously. Im not even playing a proper instrument right now.

Oh well, different strokes I guess.
