Just so you know ... it's not like there is 12 tracks all the way through. Each little section has it's own track, there really aren't more than 4 at a time going.

Ehh ... I guess I just don't see how you did "more."

I wasn't trying to be impressive with my chops (obviously), my goal was the final product and how it sounded.

Yes. For some freakish reason I liked Atomicants  It was jsut cool sounding.

But I eventually voted for Luke.

No, I'm just a bit confused as to why you have so many more votes ... when *in my opinion* your song lacked much ... song-ness? Seemed more to me to be just a load of noises with echoes ... and the occasional note. I did my best to incorporate some sort of rhythm and structure to the song.

Oh well, it's an internet comp. Nothing to get worked up over :)

Oh sade, as if one vote is gonna be a dent in your ego :p

Besides, I think you've pretty much won this. Even if Luke was clealry more talented...

and atomicant....

and everyone else on this forum...

Since when must songs contain any sort of pre-concieved notion of dogmatic sonic property?

Your song is still subjective noise, you realize that, no?

:amaze:
10-30-2005, 09:40 PM
Also, I would (and most likely the other competitors) much appreciate a little bit of reasoning/ critique on the pices with the votes.

Of course it is. And every person, I'm sure, has a valid reason for voting the way they did. I'm just trying to understand what made your song (according to the votes) more than 4 times better than mine.

It's not a song. It's a halloween comp. Have you ever listened to any of the best horror movie scores? They're not even notes. It's just noise. The Shining's soundtrack-perfect example.

My bad. I was under the impression that we were composing songs.

Well the term song is subjective...I just wrote what I felt necessary. You obviously did the same, but if you're looking for an in stone insurrection, perhaps it's because you DID work it too much like a song?

either way, I enjoyed your entry just as much as anybodies.

Yeah, it's cool. I'm not mad or anyhting rediculous like that. I guess my point is that I'd like to hear the reasonings behind why people think some are good and some are less so.

I liked yours too, btw ... just a different approach to the topic.

These entries were just one big WOW

Atomicant: well, you had a few good parts but i think you just played it too randomly. its fine that you played some random notes to make it scarier but sometimes i think you should combined the noises into a theme or something more listenable.

Luke19Boarder: are you a psychopath? what the hell was that? where did u get this from? i might be an easily scared guy but this was scary man. what i liked here was especially how the song was sort of "increasing" toward the climax. and when the climax reached BOOM I felt like someone was near me or something. great track.

Cil: Another psychopath here in MX, this was toward more random noises but i liked this better than Atomicant because to me i thought the song flowed more even though it was mostly random, i felt like there a reason why cil played those noises, and that its not just there for us to hear. great track as well.

Janyeno: this song is considered "happy" compare to the other entries  its a great track as well, i enjoyed the random noises between the melody and the main riff. the thing is, i didn't get the scary feeling in this track, although it was a great track. it sounded to me more like an action movie type of soundtrack rather than a horror film. but that's just me. good track anyway.

Nice guys
Vote: Luke19Boarder

I voted for Lukes. I really like the building effect in it.

I kinda want to do mine again and change some parts, but i dont know how the **** i made half of the noises on there  I should have spent longer on it, than my no draft/ one take attitude but oh well.

Tryxx

I can close the poll and keep this open if you want to discuss the next competition.

Sade
10-31-2005, 05:30 PM
Closing the poll sounds good-we've sucked the votes dry methinks.

My idea for the next comp: A bass loop comp with a theme.

What I mean is, recording of a 15 second or so bass loop-with as many effects, tracks, etc as you want. The idea is to see how you can polish and perfect a very short amount of material.

The theme to write the loop about is snow. Winter, cold-etc.

Sound good?

janyeno
10-31-2005, 05:46 PM
sounds cool

:amaze:
10-31-2005, 06:04 PM
so basically we are just trying to get 15 seconds of the best possible composition we can ... and replay it over and over?
