I bought a bass guitar a while back, learnt a few songs and then didnt really touch it, been sitting witht he amp in the corner of my room for about 2 months now. Anyway, to the point, I wana get into it and start making up some cool kinda funk grooves. Im crap so start me off with something simple, il get that down and then expand on it. Ive been playing guitar for a while now and know some basic theory such as the pentatonic, major, and minor scale shapes, so if you wana give me some links to exercises and or simple but harder than say, audioslave tabs then would be much apreciated.

Funk is all about feel and grooving. Listen to some P-funk/the meters for inspiration.

Remember those oldies songs you heard on the radio? Some of them sounded like Soul?
Motown stuff is great for the learning bassist. Thank you can check out some early funk stuff. Sly and the Family Stone is a great listen for learning

i've been playin bass for about 4 years and found that some of the best grooves come from the minor pentatonic scale, as you've said.
some bands to listen to are of course:
sly and the family stone (sometimes)
RATM (always)
red hot chili peppers (early)
these bands hav good grooves because they use the minor pentatonic mostly.
also i sometimes just make grooves with the 2nd, 3rd and octave notes in the scale for my own grooves.
so get stuck into it!!!

As this is the newish to bass thread, I thought I may as well as a question since I'm newish to bass. My bass buzzes and I'm not sure why. Am I 'plucking' the strings wrong or are the strings just buzzing against the fret wires or is it just a crappy bass in general?
