I'm looking for a solo or lead bass piece to play at my high school variety show. Nothing too busy and crazy. Just something that grooves hard and will get the audience going. Any suggestions?

Hmm... you could take the slap line and/or solo of Aeroplane by The Red Hot Chili Peppers and kinda do an improv around it. If you are having trouble coming up with your own piece, try to improvise around another composition and add your own style and techniques too it.

I actually found the awakening by Les. I want to add another slap section before the end. Do you know what scale he is using on that song?

well, he uses a lot of notes out of the scale. I don't hear any chord changes

just watch where his hands are in the video. When you figure it out, please post a tab of it :)
You could try something like this. It'd be hilarious.

You could do Wooten's version of Amazing Grace. It's not too hard either, shouldn't take long to learn.
