Classical Thump actually seems very doable if you break it down bit by bit, it's the stringing it together that sounds hard....

A Show of Hands is actually harder than Classical Thump. Once you get the few techniques down that are used in Classical Thump you basically have the whole song.

I would agree, A show of Hands has an incredible layering of sound....
f you have DT down, you could make a go of Classical Thump.

Not sure if its the hardest or not, but the slap solo portion of "The Astral Traveler" by GHS (Stu Hamm on bass) is pretty intense.

Edge, a long time ago in a galaxy far FAR away, you said you played Coffee Shop at a club or something, and nailed the solo. Did you have recordings of that?

That wasn't me who said that. I've never even played Coffee Shop. I played Aeroplane during a break in one of our gigs about a year ago and nailed the solo.

Ya, the timing and speed of A Show of Hands is so much more challenging. I mean slapping 16th notes at 276 bmp in 7/8 timing is just a little bit harder than mostly DTing 16th notes at 132bpm in 4/4. I can get most of Classical Thump done(not perfectly, of course) but A Show of Hands in my opinion is just another skill level.

Either some zany dickens solo, or A Show of Hands.

The tempo in A Show of Hands is 142, not 276. If it were 276, it would sound like a beehive.
I think Classical Thump is harder than A Show of Hands, personally. The piezo pickups used in A Show of Hands make it sound like Victor is playing a lot more notes than he actually is. If you play it without the piezos, it sounds a lot less impressive.

Actually, I think it's much more impressive to see it done live, piezos or not, than on the recording.

Well, yes, if you get to see it done. But if you listen to it with the piezos and then without, you'll notice the difference.
I didn't think he did that song live though.

The piezo's really only allowed Vic to record each string individually and then pan the strings to different sides throughout the song. If played it on a bass without piezo's it would be just as impressive.

Amplified Speaker, DT is double thumping, a technique similar to slapping.

If played properly it is equally impressive to me, I know this because I saw him play the main parts of the song along with most of Classical Thump. It is an opinion of how impressive it is, but either way it is very impressive.

I still disagree. The piezos do give it a certain effect that makes it sound harder than it really is.
I'm not saying the song isn't impressive or anything, it definetely is. I just think the piezos do add something to it. I think that's why he used them in the first place.

And what about the hardest slap song or line that isn't a bass solo?

I wouldnt classify them as real hard but Rob Trujillo had some ineresting slap lines with Infectious Grooves, and "Power of Equality" by RHCP has an interesting slap bass line, a little harder to play than it sounds.
Keep in mind "hard to play" depends a lot on who is attempting to play it. What may be hard for someone playing for 10 yrs may seem to be almost impossible for someone playing 2 yrs(like me)

I've played Coffee shop a fair few times live. I've got a recording at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=209093
although I recorded this a while back, I believe I have improved significantly since.
I don't find A Show of Hands difficult at all. It's just memorizing the different patterns, really. I find CT MUCH more difficult.

I was blown away by Primus's Lacquerhead solo the first 20 times I saw it. Then, I grabbed my bass, had it very good in two (not too action-packed) days, and mastered in a week. Similar story for Tommy die Katze. However, I acknowledge his awesomeness and innovation. It's really hard to go past most Vic Wooten stuff. :(
