Hey I am looking for a versatile new bass with a street price less than $1k with active electronics and preferably a neck-through body. I play everything, but I usually play Jazz, slap funk, and rock. Any suggestions?

yes, I would have to say that the used market pwns the firsthand market for asub $1000 deal (even though I deal in £).

I'm sure Tryxx and Quatre would agree too...I know they too have picked up some real beauts second hand.

It doesn't HAVE to be a neck thru. also, would you guys recommend schecters?

I wouldn't reccommend Schecter, I've never really been "wowed" by any of their basses...

if NT is not a necessity, I'd scream Kubicki or Attitude, but thats a little expensive...

I would agree, the used market is dandy. I picked up my Epifani for something like $550, in GREAT condition.

Howabout this Washburn? It hasn't got active pickups but it has sweet as reviews.

a few basses come to mind (i havent looked lately so id double chck if they have active electronic, i think they do but im not sure)
ibanezsrx700
bc rich inovator (dont worry this bc rich actually looks normal)
ibanezsr1000- this might push the buget tho

id also highly consider a peavey grind and adding active preamp yourself

actually if i believe some 1 was selling one on here equiped with active preamp and upgraded pups for $350 and i dont think it sold. you should look around for that and jump on if u can.

I honestly am intimidated by neck thrus.

What bass would this be, like your 2nd? 3rd? What bass do you have now? What about Spectors? I've been really impressed with them lately.

You may be able to find a second-hand Peavey Cirrus. I love mine, but didn't buy it used.

I've got the 5 string version of that and I love it!

But yeah, it would improve out of sight with active pickups.
