so i just boiled my strings,i left em for about 3 hours and dryed them with a hairdryer,but when i tightend the G string, the top of the string that wraps around the post snapped clean off.i know there wasnt any point in me posting this but now im a G string short and a tad peed off.

It most likely snapped because you bent it the opposite way when you removed it, weakening the wire. In future don't boil your strings, put them in some turpentine for 15 minutes. Boiling only catalyses the breaking of strings as it makes the metal expand and contract and weakens it, it also makes the strings lose their bounce.
