I don't see why the hell not, anything is possible. Whether it will sound good or not is another question, best bet is to try it. That is assuming you are going to start a rock with vibes, heh.

Try checking out Frank Zappa's "Apostrophe (')" album. I think that's what you're looking for.

The White Stripes doing it is more a reason not to do it.

I'm not sure what I hate more, the pathetic (drumming) or the the unintelligable wailing.

vibes, the keyboard percussion instrument?
if you could pull that off it could be cool. it would definitely set you apart. it would be hard to do though.

Vibes are one of my favourite instruments.

See if you can find anything by the band "esmerine" online.

pretty good live.....thats how they made their career dude. Cuz they have so many great assets like guitar playing, druming, vocals, piano, and songwritng in general huh?(sarcasm)

hm... you might try thinking about how you will pull that off live...

becouse its sort of ... not the loudest instrument? ... hard micing it.

i did it with my old band, but we only used it on very quiet songs... with blaring electric guitars its sort of "not ideal"

and hey:

white stripes rock :-)

Actualy, I've been talking with the pit kids about how to amplify one of those suckers, no major breakthroughs yet though

Amplifying vibes can be done decently with 2 mics going through a PA.

Yes, it will work. Yes it has been done.

But don't even worry about that. Just do it. Make it work, do your own thing with it.

Yeah, pretty much. Most people bag on them because "hur hur i can play guitarz bettar than them", but really, they (or at least Jack) are extremely talented to write pop songs that sound great (you may disagree, but the songs are catchy and memorable and the actual band is famous, so I guess they win and you lose) with such a limited amount of instruments and with such simple lines. Yes, you could play most of their songs after a month of learning guitar/drums - that's the point. They're famous and rich for playing **** your little sister could play, because they are f*cking great at writing it. White Stripes win. You lose.

maybe you did pick up on the rest of my posts, but I love the white stripes. They write songs that to the general MX poplutaion has no value what-so-ever, thats what I meant. If you'd like further proof, go to CD reviews and read my review on "Get Behind Me Satan". And I'm listening to "Denial Twist" right now. So I guess In the words of Jack III White "You were hearing a different song".

I also own 8 of their biographys and did a report on them in english for the past 4 grades.......

Hey, then I guess we win too! It's only the general MX population that loses after all.

Not really.

I don't like them very much, i find them a bit dull. I also despise the punk mentality you state above.

I don't really mind, though.

So i don't really lose.

Hell there's no reason not to have a rock band with vibes. I'd have though that they would be mic'ed similarly to a piano?

to get that straight ... im not german ... the reason micing a piano is easyer than micing vibes is that a piano is louder ... as i said we did it with two condensor mics and it worked pretty well...

just you wont be able to do that in every ****ty location you end up playing...
at least not here in austria ( :p )

drumass04
11-10-2005, 04:03 PM
but would you still mic them in a similar way?

Worked for TISM, Zappa and some other stupid bands.

It'd be hard to rock out to though:

*heavily distorted guitar*

"Oh the world is in a bad way"

*fruity vibe riff*

"My god what have we done, what have we become"

*Shred guitar followed by four quick notes on the vibes*

"We won't SURVIIIIIIIIIIIIVEEEEEEEE"

*Guitarist and Vibraphone start duelling*
