View Full Version : Fender P Special or Warwick Streamer?

Hopefully, soon enough I should have enough cash for a brand spanking, top quality bass. Originally I wanted to go for a Warwick Streamer Stage I, but having heard good things and reading the review here on the American Deluxe P Bass special, I can't decide between the two. Which would you guys recommend? Any good/bad experiences with either?
I'm going to find some time over the next week or so to try them both out, but for now I was wondering if anyone could give me any helpful opinions/pointers.
Cheers

Streamers are some of the best basses around, When it comes to tone and playability, you'll have to work hard to beat a Warwick, The Streamers (imo) have a much more refined tone that the other big Warwick basses, namley Corvette Standards and the thumb, but they have a definite character whihc I love.
Whereas the P bass...well, it's nothing special. At all. Even if we wern't talking Stage 1, say something like a Streamer Jazzman, it would still be NO CONTEST!

Yep, I've played a 4 string version, the blue colour wasn't the best, but the tone was great and it was a real player too!

I'm afraid the Stage I and II far surpass even that in terms of beauty...

Flea: Sorry, you already mentioned that didn't you. Still, a very nice piece of kit.
Chris K: Man, the AAA quilted maple finishes on the Streamers are indeed heavenly.

I perfer the Stage II's, but Stage I's are still dream basses. I think I've been in love with Stage II's ever since I saw Chuck Rainey using one...

Definatly go with the warwick... ive got a corvette and its the most beautiful thing ive ever seen, warwicks quality is unbeatable they can do everything.
the fender is ok i guess.. but fenders are so... boring, there way to basic and the sound is to specific.
warwicks the way to go man :thumb:

Yep, I agree, most Fenders (apart from the Urge and a couple of the sigs) are way to generic for my tastes...
Whereas Warwick tone is instantly recognisable, they look and play great too. I was gonna get a Warwick before i got a Kubicki. Now I'm not in love with Warwick as much (I still havn't found one I like as much as my Kubicki and I've played a fair few...) but they still rank as my second favourite bass makers...

im going to have to disagree with all of you. not because i dont like the warwick, its clearly a superior bass. however it also costs about $1500 more than the deluxe p-bass. the deluxe p-bass doesn't really compare to the warwick, however if u take that $1500 and spend it on amplification i think youll be better off.

Well, if it's between the two basses, it's no contest...
and I'd rather have a good bass and what ever amp I have now than a cruddy bass and some more gear...

Are you asking are the Deluxe Pbass Special or the American Deluxe Pbass? They are not the same at all.
The American Deluxe is an amazing bass both in tone and feel. Anyone who said it was boring has obviously never played one
I've never played a Streamer before so I don't know what they're like

yea the AMERICAN p bass deluxe is by no means a "cruddy" bass. and have always believed that a low quality amp with an amazing bass wil NEVER sound as good as a a great bass through a great amp.
thread starter: perhaps you should fill us in on what amp setup you have.

I would actually prefer the P towards the Warwick.
I for one, prefer the tone. I love the active EQ and electronics, wereas I find MEC's are a bit bland (depending on the pickup configuration). Not to mention, the Fender is MUCH lighter. The neck, I find, is also easier to play.
If you don't like the "bland" (for lack of a better word) sound of the Fender pickups, you can buy some new pickups. DiMarzio may give off a more edgier sound, or Seymour Duncan, for great punch and definition. Not to mention, You'd still have $1,400 left. You'd have a GREAT bass (IMO, superior to most Warwicks), and maybe get the ones you love a great present for Christmas/whatever it is you celebrate.

Cam Guy: I'm asking about the American Deluxe P Bass. The P Bass Deluxe Special is MILES out of the price range of a Warwick Streamer. (Sorry for putting the word "special" in my initial post and confusing things).
My current amp setup is a 300w Ashdown MAG head, hooked up to a 4x10 MAG speaker cabinet. ;)

I LOVE Warwicks through Ashdowns, that Warwick growl and bite mixed with the smooth warmth of Ashdown is a heavenly balance...

I can't stand Ashdown.

Jorge, you're full of surprises...I never thought I'd hear you say that about an amp!

ive been actually trying to decide between a corvette standard and a usa p-bass special. Im going with the fender just because it will go better with my bands sound and i am kind of a fender whore. but the warwick is very next

Woah, I was expecting a closer-run contest here. I guess the people are in clear favour of Warwick!

p bass special without a doubt.
i dont like fenders or wawricks to tell the truth but the streamer is the worst bass by wawrick in my opinion and the american Deluxe P Bass special is one of the best fenders iv played.

The Streamer is amazing...
But I guess it all comes down to a matter of opinion...but still, I don't see how anyone could not see that it is infact the Corvette Standard that is the worst Warwick bass, being a "buget model" as such.
