Every band or album you click on at allmusic.com has some helpful collections of moods next to it, so you can understand what the album or artist is like. It's best to read them all at once so you can get a dose of the artist with words like "brash cerebral intense volatile fiery bombastic" etc., but if you click on each of those words, you get a special surprise!

Each mood has its own page, where the allmusic people put together the artists, albums, and songs that they think fit the adjective best. There are even little sound clips for each one, so you can test them for yourself!

Here's what I found for "Freewheeling:"

"hmmm, i want some music that has a freewheeling feel to it..."
"ah yes, like Jimi Hendrix, the Flaming lips, or Madonna?"
"exactly!"

I like exploring by theme, it's good to know that if I ever get a divorce, Great Divorce Songs for Her will be there for me.

As for moods, I like to find ones that I don't automatically associate with being moods (like organic or effervescent) and whoa Spice Girl recommendation.

It can be useful for making mixtapes I suppose.

What about the poor sap who accidentally typed in "firewheeling" and got only a single Cream album?
