View Full Version : How the heck do I deal with this????

Okay, here's the deal.

Two of the members of my band are twins, which is cool and all, and not a problem. The problem is their mum.

I don't dislike her or anything, but lately she's been really getting in the way.

We have a deadline for finishing our CD (four weeks), because school's almost over. Once school's over, we won't have access to condencer mics or a mixer, which means we'll have to pay for studio time. She understands this, but in the last little while she has:

- Rang the twins up 45 minutes into a recording session because "she wanted them home". When the responce from me was "we're f*cking busy here, tell her to piss off" (said quietly so she couldn't hear it), she was told that they were still working. So, she got one of her friends to roll around to the school to pick them up  .

- Told our bassist, after he brought an amp "why did you waste your money on that, you don't want to be a musician".

- Decided to tell my parents they should be concerned about the amount of time I'm dedicating to music rather than school.

- While trying to put a new song together, came into the room, listened for a few seconds and decided to sing very high pitched harmonies over what we were doing.

- When we decided to take an opputunity to get some recording done at the twin's house, because I had the computer with me, we found that we were missing a power lead, we asked if we could borrow one from her computer. Her reply was "no, it's mine, you can't have it".

She's really starting to get in the way, and I'm pulling my hair out because:

1) She over-reacts to things, so if I tell her to piss off, she's likely to take it the wrong way.

2) We're never going to get anything done in four weeks (one day a week, for 4 hours) if she keeps this up.

Little help????

Parents are a hard problem for us fellow minors. Have the twins talk to her. Have them tell her that she is kinda getting in the way and that they really want to do this, blah blah blah and have them pull a huge guilt trip. It might work.

Sounds like a jealous parent stopping her kids from actually doing something with their lives. May I ask, what does this 'mom' do as a job?

There's a right way to take it?

Just explain to her this.

There are 24 hours in a day.
There are 7 days in a week.
Thus making a total of 168 hours in a week.
4 weeks thus equals a total of 672 hours.

You require her to get off your back for a total of 16 hours out of 672.
So mathematicly, she needs to spend 2.380952380952381% of the next 4 weeks. Not bothering you.
Also explain to her that in 4 weeks you spend more than 16 hours in school and you're playing with the band AFTER school so how can she be concerned about you dedicating more time to music than school?
That's like her telling your parents that she thinks you're spending too much time dedicated to having your dinner at home than school. They happen at entirely different times.

Failing that, do what other people have said.
Kill her.
But they're idiots.
So follow the K's advice. Stab her in a public area. That way everyone will get the message not to ask you about it.

I bought a surgical grade scalpel :) it's purdy.

Write a song about her. Tell her you wrote a song about her and tell her to give you spme space to record it. Make sure the song says that you want to kill her. Play her the song. Then fork her eyes out.

She does sound, like someone else said, jealous because her kids are doing something with their life

How do the twins feel about it?!?

Tell her to "F*ck the hell off, bitch".

It's better if the twins say it, both at the same time.

Most non-musicians that I know don't consider playing music "doing something with their life".

Like I had a friend that I helped record an album for a language project. After hearing about this, one of my other friends asked me how long it took me and I said "It took us 2 hours to record the songs (one take for every 40 second song, we were in a rush), and then it took me 5 hours to edit it and get it all to a burnable state." And he said "Dude, you have no life"... guess what this kid does all day.... Plays Madden and watches TV all day, and he was serious.

So the twins' mom might not know the experience of making music, therefore thinks they are wasting their time.

Write a song about it, using metaphores and all other kinds of stuff to disguise it.

A while back I had a very similar problem. I told the guy (who's mother was the b****) to talk to her and try to explain that this is what he wants to do. She got mad at me so I just told her, "Look, I'm not you're son, I don't have to listen to you, I don't even have to respect you, so please get off my property." She knows her place now.

I hate parents who don't understand music and how good it is. I tell you what is ridiculous my mate didn't want to go to college now he's changed his mind and apologised to his mum etc and she just told his he has to keep working in tescos full time, he's just going to go college anyway now. Oh right what you should do is keep the twins at the recording studio and if someone comes to collect them lock the doors and don't let them in. Also if she slags of music slap the bitch and say hey do you know about this? No?Well piss off.
