Hey all. I just bought a 6.5x14" brass snare drum shell on E-bay ($16 + shipping). So my question is: which color hardware (lugs, , hoops, strainer, vent, etc) do you think will look best on it: Brass, Chrome, or Black? I'll be putting it together over the next couple of weeks and I'll post pics when finished.

Edit: I'll probably be using tube lugs.

black chrome all around IMO is hot on brass.

I don't know, I'm not too good at imagening it. :D

black chrome =/= black powdercoat. PC looks cheap. black chrome does not.

i think black always looks nice but is this black brass or gold brass. I have a gold brass snare that looks fantastic with chrome hardware and that is what i would recommend.

Normal chrome...I hate black hardware...I think it's just ugly

Well, my kit has black hoops & lugs, etc., and I think it looks great. I'm leaning towards a combination of chrome and brass though, like Poppinfresh's drum.

IMO in poppin's drum there, the hoops and the shell blend too much since they're the same color!

I really like the black chrome, it doesn't look gaudy like just striaght up black that we're all used to seeing. But since its not a choice, I'm gonna say chrome, but you should seriously consider black chrome.:thumb:

black chrome hardware will only look good if everything you have is black chrome. (lugs/rims/& all stands) having half and half does not really impress.

Not necessarily the black chrome will blend more with the regular chrome stands. So it won't stick out like if you had regular black hardware and chrome stands. Thats why I like it a lot.

brass on brass imo, black is risky for all those rimshots, could get a bit speckly

if its a chromed brass shell, then Brass (gold) hardware...if its natural yellow brass, Chrome hardware

enh....definatly not a black powdercoat....too flat.

MAYBE black nickel...that way it has some shine. but still A yellow brass snare would be too light in color to fit well with black hoops.

Well my vote was with black chrome.. I know I've seen a pic with a brass shell/black chrome tube lugs and it was hot. You can get black chrome hoops as well, at LEAST diecast I'm sure of, not 100% on triple flanged.

There, that is a hell of a sexy snare if you ask me ;o The brass hoops go well with the lugs/shell too.

By black, I guess I meant black chrome. I don't like flat black either, but black chrome looks great on most anything, IMO.

Don't go for brass hardware, it's often really hard to get the colors to match, if they don't it looks stupid. Go black hardware.
